EXCLUSIVEInside the bitter fight between the Mormons and small town America: Church accused of 'bullying' picturesque hamlets into letting them build towering temples
Daily Mail UK ^ | June 16, 2024 | Miles Dilworth

When the rural neighborhood of Lone Mountain, Nevada, stood up to the might of the Mormon church, they may have anticipated an explosive argument.

But not literally.

'We've had people setting off fireworks,' says resident Erin LeDoe. 'It was a neighbor who lives up against the mountain. They were setting off what were basically large cannons, right outside her backyard.'

Those behind the pyrotechnics are thought to be supporters of a planned Mormon mega temple - and members of the church itself.

Their target was a local woman who had fiercely opposed it, along with many of her neighbors, on the grounds that the proposed 216-foot tall building would dwarf their homes and destroy their peaceful idyll.

Despite its name, Lone Mountain is just one of several rural towns across America taking on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), commonly referred to as the Mormon church, over its plans to plant 'humongous' temples in the heart of their communities.

Residents claim the proposals ride roughshod over local planning rules, designed to preserve the character of these unique settlements.

Yet simply by defending their land, locals have ignited the ire of their religious neighbors, who have labeled opponents as 'bigots' and threatened to sue those who resist.

And while the church flexes its legal muscle, it mobilizes its members by issuing rallying cries to descend on town halls from far and wide in a bid to show their projects have mass support.

Ecclesiastical leaders say the size of these temples is 'essential' to their religious practice - and therefore protected by law.

But many of their own members have poured scorn on these arguments, while others have suggested it is merely a cynical ploy to bolster the church's vast real estate portfolio.

Good citizens

Fine neighbors

But it’s a business and political organization.

And they are vengeful.

Yes, some things come out more awkward than I suspect they were intended to be. Every time I see ann animal carrier tied to a roof of a vehicle I look for a dog and also am reminded of Romney. At least Romney didn’t shoot his dog like Governor Noem did. :)

“Ecclesiastical leaders say the size of these temples is ‘essential’ to their religious practice”

Obviously not true. How big does it need to be for a bathtub and a curtain?

But-— these are “Gods” according to their NON-scripture.

A very different Jesus they speak of- not the Christ.

Socially conservative?

Largely.

Politically conservative?

Not so sure based on who they elect.

I’ve met many nice Mormons.
I know of evil ones too.

That said, my comment was addressed entirely at the pagan Mormon religion.

Harry Reid wasn’t a Jack Mormon, he was among the most devout and held a Temple Recommend, just like Mitt Romney and Glenn Beck.

In his religion he is now a God over a planet (or a universe that he makes)of people somewhere, with lots of wives producing spirit children and like our God is to us.

“”””””Mormons are essentially Christian””””””

Smith’s cult has 4 Holy Books, only one of them has many errors according to Mormons and is to be disregarded when it is mistaken. Guess which one that is,

“The Latter-day Saint canon consists of four books: the Bible and three other texts—the Book of Mormon, the Book of Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price.”

If I remember correctly, the Mormons settled Las Vegas. I see a much, much bigger problem with the Mosques.

Woke up in your perpetual state of grouchiness, huh?

Occasionally you almost make sense.

A guy who was down the line for Roe v Wade, queer marriage, etc was a “devout Mormon”? That right?

Back in the day everyone I knew in Utah thought of him as nothing but a Jack Mormon. Like a lot of Nevada. Kinda comes with the territory.

It never mattered to the hierarchy cuz he was a Big Man in DC and could Do Things. Or maybe you believe all his BS about not being involved with the Jewish gangsters and their casinos. Uh huh. Sure. Just ask Jacky.

But undoubtedly I’m gonna get jumped by the True Believer Bretheren and their enablers, like you. So maybe I’ll put on my garments and you can flame away! Sposedta protect me from bullets, right?

Riiiiight.

They did. As I said, it was a way station between Salt Lake and San Bernardino. Interesting tidbit: Wyatt Earp worked that line at one point in his life.

And Mosques aren’t churches, they’re colonizer outposts.

Are we supposed to hate the mormon church here on Free Republic?

No, simply point out their cultist beliefs and their adulterous pedophile con man founder.

They use The Bible, just like other Christian religions. Not very different really in that respect than Catholics, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, Lutheran, etc. when I was growing up, as Catholic, and now still the Catholic, I was exposed to all of these, to me they’re all more similar than not. Half my family members are Mormon, and a bit of the others. The core values are the same. This is like arguing whether one buy a Ford or a Chevy.

Personal attacks, perpetual grouchiness, what got into you?

Harry Reid was a Temple Mormon, his devotion and devoutness was tested routinely in personal interview and examination and he was approved and issued the identification required to enter the Holy Temples forbidden to regular, less devout Mormons i.e. Jack Mormons.

Mormonism is a religion, not a denomination.

Since the cult was founded in America they to this day use many of the trappings and props and language they feel they need to win converts in Christian nations.

The Bible is a prop and they don’t believe in it, but their true religious book was written by the cult leader himself.

This is from that religion’s page describing their true Holy Book.
“The first author of the Book of Mormon is the prophet Nephi, who left Jerusalem with his family in about 600 B.C. and sailed to the Americas. Nephi passed the record to his younger brother Jacob, who gave it to his son Enos. Each author always gave the record to someone they trusted.”

“Why is it called the Book of Mormon?
After hundreds of years, the record was given to Mormon, who was both a prophet and military leader. Mormon condensed all the writings into one volume, engraved on thin sheets of metal. He titled it the Book of Mormon. Before he died, Mormon passed the plates to his son Moroni. Moroni added a few words, then buried the plates.”

“Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon
In 1823, Moroni appeared to Joseph Smith as an angel and told him where the plates were buried. Joseph Smith translated the plates into English by the gift and power of God, and the Book of Mormon was published in Palmyra, New York, in 1830.”

A Baptist church wouldn’t attempt to violate local property building ordinances.

“I’m not promoting any religion. I’m just asking questions why we apparently are supposed to dislike a certain religion.”

In that respect I would like to know why the mormons could not build a temple that would blend in and not clash with the local town they have moved into?

That seems to be the uproar of this story.

You claim you don’t know much about Mormonism? That’s a lie. You are either a very uninformed Mormon, or you are lying.

Mormons are not Christian. They do not believe in the Trinity and claim Lucifer is a brother of Jesus.

Mormons are polytheistic a d believe Jesus was a created being produced by Elohim having sexual intercourse with Mary.
It’s a cult.
