The Vatican’s doctrine office will publish a new document next week on discerning Marian apparitions and other supernatural events.

The Holy See Press Office announced on Tuesday that Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, the prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF), will unveil new norms for discernment regarding “apparitions and other supernatural phenomena” on Friday, May 17.

In an interview with the National Catholic Register, CNA’s sister news partner, last month, Fernandez said that the document will provide “clear guidelines and norms” for discernment.

The new norms will be the first time that the Vatican’s doctrinal office has issued a general document on apparitions in four decades. Pope Paul VI approved norms on “the discernment of presumed apparitions or revelations” in 1978.

Because posting to no screen name takes a deliberate action of deleting it. It by it’s very nature an intentional act.

But there are FReepers who have thin skin and DEMAND that you post to them no more.

Then, later, they post something that just MUST be responded to, but you've been warned away.

So, you just HAVE to post to 'NOBODY' to prove that FreeRepublic allows back and forth discussions on its website and you will NOT be silenced.

I've heard an old meme that may apply to a LOT of situations:

Scripture failing to mention that something happened doesn't give people license to make stuff up, claim it happened, and pass it off as Truth, simply because because *it could have happened.*

As well as...

Scripture failing to mention that something will be found in a cave under a hill in a yet undiscovered continent, that will correct (uh, restore) the ERROR found in existing scripture.

However, that will NOT 'correct' enough, so one man will receive 'messages' from GOD that adds to the first correcting message.

Oh, yeah. that won't be enough so messages hidden in ancient Egyptian papyri will be found to contain even more information that was purposefully removed from the early days of Christianity.

That should be sufficient to show it was only the scriptures they searched.

Heck, just READING the book will convince most people of this fact!

Acts 17:11 King James Bible

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Certainly the early practices and teachings of the Church were past down in the form of oral traditions.

Then it should NOT suprise anyone that the first seven Catholic churches mentioned by the ANGEL in Revelation were so screwed up in their theology!

To take these verses as a justification for Sola Scriptura would mean that only the Old Testament was binding and that the New Testament wasn't necessary at all.

You are exactly right, for Jesus told this story...

19 “There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and [h]fared sumptuously every day. 20 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, 21 desiring to be fed with [i]the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

24 “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’

27 “Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house, 28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’ 29 Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ 30 And he said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ 31 But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’ ”

Luke Chapter 16:19-31

Jesus didn't write a book like Mohammad or Joseph Smith did.

Darn!

Now our Mormon friends are upset again!

It's no wonder Catholics got such a bad rap in the early days of that Utah religion.

Orson Pratt proclaimed:
"Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the 'whore of Babylon' whom the Lord denounces by the mouth of John the Revelator as having corrupted all the earth by their fornications and wickedness. Any person who shall be so corrupt as to receive a holy ordinance of the Gospel from the ministers of any of these apostate churches will be sent down to hell with them, unless they repent" (The Seer).

I am SO thankful that THIS is finally gonna be cleared up!

Galatians 1:6-9 kjv

6. I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7. Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Funny, neither the word *Catholic* nor the word *Rome* appear in Revelation 2 & 3.

It's presumptuous to presume they were Catholic.

And the errors were corrected by Jesus commanding John to WRITE LETTERS with a message for them directly from Him.

Hmmm, error corrected by Scripture alone. Where have I heard that before?

It's presumptuous to presume they were Catholic.

It's a conundrum for Catholics who INSIST that their church started with Peter, thus ALL churches were Catholic.

They tend to shy away from this 'fact' when these seven get mentioned.

And what do we see from the denomination that claims to have never changed? A whole lotta change.

We also see the daily tirade of anti-pope, and by logic anti-Roman Catholic, posts by a very small and insignificant sect of what are identified as Roman Catholic.

Rome’s claim on “tradition” wrongly presupposes their theology on topics such as the Marian dogmas, papal infallibility, the Mass in only Latin, etc were a part of the oral teaching in the NT. Yet none of these, especially the Marian dogmas, were included in scripture. You’d think something that something as essential for salvation such as the Marian dogmas (claimed by Rome but not scripture) would have been included in the texts.

Have you been reading Loraine Boettner?

I’d love to see who else claims that the Church has claimed that the Apostles said the Mass had to be in Latin. He is by far the most likely “credible” candidate. Princeton was, I guess, trying to show that they could do worse than Wilson.

At the time of the Apostles, Greek was the working language in Rome, and the Roman Liturgy, Kyrie Eleison, remained in Greek until the Pontificate of Damasus I, ca. 380.

Greek was much less prevalent in Africa, which was where the original Latin traditions had earlier roots.

Good information yet there’s a small sect that swears the mass has to be in Latin or else it seems to be heresy to do otherwise.

The situation is somewhat more complex and nuanced than that (I know, relatively speaking, a ton of people in that camp).

They strongly prefer the 1962 Latin (some the 1568 or pre-1954) Latin to what has followed. To the ones that are hard core, if one digs, it becomes evident that the problem post 1962 isn’t the Latin but the changes that accompanied the change from Latin—whether the 1968 or 2001 version, even in Latin, would be rejected as so bad as to be beyond the pale.

Many of their observations of negative things are accurate insofar as what they observe is, at bare minimum, arguably negative.

However, even a good many of these will frequent and pray in a Church where a more modern Mass is celebrated, albeit without attending Mass. I can walk two blocks and see this.

I appreciate the reply. However it illustrates what many of us have observed about Roman Catholicism in that it does change and that it does do things differently than they claim they’ve always done.
