The Vatican’s doctrine office will publish a new document next week on discerning Marian apparitions and other supernatural events.

The Holy See Press Office announced on Tuesday that Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, the prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF), will unveil new norms for discernment regarding “apparitions and other supernatural phenomena” on Friday, May 17.

In an interview with the National Catholic Register, CNA’s sister news partner, last month, Fernandez said that the document will provide “clear guidelines and norms” for discernment.

The new norms will be the first time that the Vatican’s doctrinal office has issued a general document on apparitions in four decades. Pope Paul VI approved norms on “the discernment of presumed apparitions or revelations” in 1978.

Solid traditional Catholic theologians hold that desiring apparitions and the like is at least a venial sin.

I could go on on that point, but I recall two jokes-—

The Holy Family is sitting around discussing where to go on Vacation. Joseph wants to go back to Egypt and show Jesus the pyramids and discuss them with him in a way that wasn’t possible to do when he was so young. Jesus suggest spending some time out in the wilderness. Mary says “I’d really like to go to Medjugorje—I’ve never been.”

A bit more edgy: The third secret of Fatima “Feche Lourdes” (FWIW Feche is Portugese-—I originally heard it told Ferme Lourdes, which does have its own sense of humour, but is a little too obscure for me)

Disclosure: I hold for the authenticity of Fatima and Lourdes, but believe at least most of Medjugorje is some combination of fraud and demonic.

...if you can't handle Elsie's commentary...

1 Corinthians 7:1-40 ESV

... each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.

The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband.

For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does.

Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.

 Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer;

but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

I don't think it's ME that one has to worry about...

They all claim they’re already saved and have absolutely no fear of their Final Judgement by God.

HMMMmmm...

Cardinal Burke thus observed that Mary, with her infused knowledge, and having long pondered Simeon’s prophesy (your own heart a sword shall Pierce) knew that all was consummated.

Could it be ... SATAN?

Ya think????

2 Corinthians 11:14-15 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.

She’s not mentioned ONCE in any of those passages.

Heck; she gets more ink in the Quran than in the Bible!

Also, the disciples on the road to Emmaeus might have had an unwritten/unrecorded thing or two to say about scriptural interpretation.

Maybe but we'll never know because it was not written down.

If they go by example, they'll use Scripture, what Jesus used to explain about Himself to them.

Jesus never had a good thing to say about tradition and never appealed to anything but Scripture as witness about Himself.

Feel good about this: No matter how much these people dump on you for being Catholic, they show their allegiance to the Catholic church every Sunday by obeying it’s Sunday worship command.

The scapular ebb…the scapular. It shows you have no confidence in the promises of Christ to forgive all of your sins. Every single last one. So you’ve listened to your fellow Roman Catholics, that is the handful who may agree with you in OMCET, that if you wear the scapular you’ll avoid the hell fire.

Its an idol. A rock around your neck that’s going to drag you down to the very place you’re trying to avoid.

Many have shared the Gospel with you on these forums. And you’ve scoffed and rejected it each time.

There’s still time to trust in Christ for your salvation. How much? You don’t know.

But the Truth has been shared with you.
