On January 30, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) razed the Akhoondji mosque and a madrasa, describing them as “illegal structures” in Sanjay Van, a reserved forest area.
No one’s quite sure when the Akhoondji Masjid was built in Mehrauli. But the “Mosque of Akhondji” was listed in a 1922 publication by an officer of the Archaeological Survey of India who recorded that while its construction date was “unknown”, the mosque was repaired in “1270 AH (1853-4 AD)”, and that it lay west to to an old Idgah that “existed when Timur invaded India in 1398 AD”.
“Removal of the illegal structures, religious in nature, was approved by the Religious Committee, conveyed vide Minutes of Meeting dated 27/01/2024," the English Daily quoted the DDA as saying.
Mosque of Akhondji, which was demolished by the DDA also finds its mention in an official account of an Archaeological Survey of India officer. The mosque was listed in the 1922 publication by an ASI officer, reported IE.
The 700-year-old mosque was also home to 22 students enrolled in an Islamic boarding school, the caretakers of the mosque told news agency AFP.
Before the demolition drive, the DDA did not send any intimation or legal notice to the mosque's managing committee warning them about the action, Mohammad Zaffar, a member of the mosque's managing committee, told AFP. He also said that the demolition was carried out "in the dark of the night".
All the graves in the mosque compound were also desecrated, and no one was allowed to take out their belongings and even Quran from inside the mosque before it was razed, Zaffar told AFP.
"Many of our revered figures and my ancestors were buried there. There is no trace of the graves now. The rubble from the mosque and the graves has been removed and dumped somewhere else." Zaffar told AFP.
Since the DDA action, a heavy police presence has barricaded roads outside the grounds and also refused entry of people to the site.
There are a few in the USA that are illegal as well. They do not meet divinity building codes and are used to wage war on America.
So the Indians destroyed a mosque. Hey, mistakes happen. You think you put your bulldozer into reverse, and then it lurches forward.
As a side note, Indian victims of Muslim violence number in the hundreds of thousands. Diversity isn’t working out so great there.
Modi’s Hindu nationalists are becoming much more aggressive with non-Hindus, Christians and Muslims alike.

“Karnataka state recorded the highest number of anti-Christian attacks in India last year, and it is keeping pace this year.
Christians in Karnataka are being attacked “at rapid regularity” and “with near impunity,” and it is “a serious matter of concern for the Christian community,” said Dr. Babu Joseph, spokesperson of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI).
Much of the violence occurs under the vigilante pretext of rounding up Christians supposedly involved in “forcible” or “fraudulent” conversion efforts. On Monday (Feb. 1) in Thagadur village, Kodagu district, Hindu extremists dragged 11 Christians – including four women – from their homes and colluded with police to arrest them on such false charges.
The Global Council of Indian Christians reported that all of the Christians, members of the Beraka Gospel Church in Suntikupa village, were tortured at the Siddapur police station to pressure them to admit to the charges. Most of the jailed Christians are tribal, daily wage laborers who work on coffee plantations. “

Over two decades of practicing and proselytizing Christianity, Badinath Salam had been kicked out of his home several times and often harassed. But in December, he recalled, the vitriol turned virulent.
Leaders in his Indigenous Indian village beat drums to summon all 100 households to a clearing, he said. There, gathered villagers pummeled their Christian neighbors, who made up one-fifth of their village, and left Salam hospitalized for three days.
When the drumbeats began again a week later, on Jan. 9, Salam ran for his life. In this part of central India, he wasn’t the only Christian forced to flee.
Since December, Hindu vigilantes in Chhattisgarh state in eastern India, enraged by the spread of Christianity and rallied by local political leaders, have assaulted and displaced hundreds of Christian converts in dozens of villages and left a trail of damaged churches, according to interviews with local Christians and activists and as seen during a recent trip to the area...
Good start...
I’m sure Muslims there won’t mind one bit. /s
A guy I know at my nondenominational Christian church is of Indian decent and partly grew up there, being raised as a Catholic no less.....according to him the country as a whole is pretty intolerant to all faiths other than Hindu.
About 80 million since Islam was founded.
I am no fan of Islam, but I am not a Hindu either nor a fan of ANY religious nationalism, and Modi and his party seem to be pushing that envelope now.
We have been destroying our culture in the last 10 years at a much faster rate. Look at all the statues and other items being destroyed in the name of diversity.
The historian Will Durant says the Muslim invasions and ultimate conquest of India in the 15th and 16th centuries was the bloodiest holocaust ever in the world history. If I recall, his estimates of the number killed was 50-70 million. There were stories of Muslim conquerers building literal mountains of heads from ravaged Indian cities.
If anyone has a right to be angry with Muslims, its Hindus.
The local Muslims will need a new armory and terrorist training facility.
The Chinese are doing it too.
It sounds like we need to return the favor on some Indians.
