In his “sermon” last week, rank heretic Joel Osteen continued macrodosing his herd of goatlings with spiritual strychnine, insisting that God is determined to give you a double blessing of wealth and favor, but He can’t if you don’t keep a chipper attitude.
It’s familiar ground for reprobates Joel and Victoria Osteen, the impastor and impastorette duo who lead Lakewood Church, the 600,000-square-foot, 16,000-seat behemoth in the former Compaq Center. Blessed to have the devil himself literally dictating their sermons, Lakewood has ballooned to an annual budget of nearly $90,000,000, with 368 full-time and part-time staff spending nearly 1.7 million dollars each week on operation.
Titled “From Trouble to Double,” Osteen keeps on dragging his congregants into further damnation with his love for gospel-less, Christless, therapeutic moralistic deism shot through with promises of filthy lucre, telling congregants in part:
God wants to pay you back. He wants to give you beauty for those ashes, make the rest of your life so rewarding that you don’t think about who did you wrong. You don’t focus on the pains of the past, but you have to break out of that prison of defeat, bitternes, self-pity, and become a prisoner of hope.
…. Have a new perspective. That dysfunction qualified you for double. Don’t sit around negative. God has something big in your future. He’s going to make up for what you didn’t get. Not to just where you should have been if everything was normal and healthy, but because of that disadvantage, he’s going to do twice as much.
It was meant to set you back, but God is going to use it to set you up, to propel you to favor, to take you where you’ve never imagined. God wants to make you a trophy of his grace; not just bring you out, but cause you to bloom, to blossom, to see favor, great opportunities, great relationships. Now do your part and give him something to work with. Don’t have a disadvantage mentality- have a double mentality. That’s what allows God to show out in your life.

He’s got a business to run and people are willing to pay for that. He actually stole it from urban churches who always preached that God was going to pay your light bill if you were faithful to Him.
He’s not really a pastor and that is not really a church. He’s a self-help guru like that Anthony Anthony guy, and that is a convention center. That is how I have always seen him anyway.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 NASBS
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, [4] and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.
Those are exactly the same verses I was thinking of.
You mean more than usual?................
That was the EXACT scripture I was going to post!...................
Isn’t Osteen a Norman Vincent Peale for the 21st century? In essence, whatever ails you, moping isn’t the answer.
When I heard him speak and he never referred to Jesus or God or anything I cared about...I TUNED HIM OUT...LIKE FIVE YEARS AGO.
He is a “you are in charge” kind of preacher.
Glad some are questioning his style.
Yes I agree in part with most of you. He is certainly a self help type of speaker mixed with a preacher.
But I don’t understand all the hate. It seems disproportionate.
So you don’t agree with everything he says... that doesn’t make him evil or not a real Christian, he is as saved and forgiven as any other sinner. I may not 100% agree with where he puts his emphasis (and certainly don’t know what is truly in his heart) but the truth is all blessings are from God, and God does reward those who lead a righteous life, while sinners will receive onto themselves the due penalty of their perversions.

I am sure the homily at my local catholic mass was probably pretty bad too. But no one is blogging about it.
The whole freedom from religion thing means you shouldn’t care what someone else preaches.
We never cease to find ways to grieve the Holy Spirit, do we? I watched ‘The Hill’ last night and could hardly get past the very accurate depiction of church that kicked the family out. The OP’s post reads just like that experience feels in real life. Bitter and angry.
LOL.
I do not see the type of magical thinking many in "Prosperity" churches put forward.
In them, God is treated as a thing which *must* do things if just the correct, magical words or thought are practiced.
In the above, I do not see God treated as a thing which must do the bidding of those who say and think the correct words.
Anyone that preaches prosperity theology is a heretic.
There is a lot of good wisdom about wealth and finances in the Bible, but anyone saying God will grant you wealth and health if you just follow his word is a con man.
Jesus was worried about your eternal soul, not your bank account.. and no you aren’t guaranteed wealth or even health even if you live the most pious life.
“It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” (Matthew 19:24)
He is a cult leader of the weak minded who are looking for something for nothing. He is nothing but a huckster.
Joel Osteen is Joel Osteen. He is not Christian. He is a Self-Improvement guru who makes a LOT of money as they tend to do if they have the gift of Gab.
A couple of weeks ago, as he preached of fear, he quoted:
“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not fear”
