He’s got a business to run and people are willing to pay for that. He actually stole it from urban churches who always preached that God was going to pay your light bill if you were faithful to Him.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 NASBS
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, [4] and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.
You mean more than usual?................
Isn’t Osteen a Norman Vincent Peale for the 21st century? In essence, whatever ails you, moping isn’t the answer.
When I heard him speak and he never referred to Jesus or God or anything I cared about...I TUNED HIM OUT...LIKE FIVE YEARS AGO.
He is a “you are in charge” kind of preacher.
Glad some are questioning his style.
Yes I agree in part with most of you. He is certainly a self help type of speaker mixed with a preacher.
But I don’t understand all the hate. It seems disproportionate.
So you don’t agree with everything he says... that doesn’t make him evil or not a real Christian, he is as saved and forgiven as any other sinner. I may not 100% agree with where he puts his emphasis (and certainly don’t know what is truly in his heart) but the truth is all blessings are from God, and God does reward those who lead a righteous life, while sinners will receive onto themselves the due penalty of their perversions.
I am sure the homily at my local catholic mass was probably pretty bad too. But no one is blogging about it.
The whole freedom from religion thing means you shouldn’t care what someone else preaches.
I do not see the type of magical thinking many in "Prosperity" churches put forward.
In them, God is treated as a thing which *must* do things if just the correct, magical words or thought are practiced.
In the above, I do not see God treated as a thing which must do the bidding of those who say and think the correct words.
Anyone that preaches prosperity theology is a heretic.
There is a lot of good wisdom about wealth and finances in the Bible, but anyone saying God will grant you wealth and health if you just follow his word is a con man.
Jesus was worried about your eternal soul, not your bank account.. and no you aren’t guaranteed wealth or even health even if you live the most pious life.
“It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” (Matthew 19:24)
Joel Osteen is Joel Osteen. He is not Christian. He is a Self-Improvement guru who makes a LOT of money as they tend to do if they have the gift of Gab.
A couple of weeks ago, as he preached of fear, he quoted:
“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not fear”
