CHRIST IN THE
OLD TESTAMENT

Before Bethlehem, Jesus intervened often in this world. This series presents some of those occasions, along with “types” of Christ: people and objects who represent Him and His qualities.

MELCHIZIDEK, THE PRIEST AND KING TO WHOM ABRAM TITHED—
A Type of Jesus

GENESIS 14

The four kings seized Abram’s nephew Lot and his possessions. When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and went in pursuit. Abram divided his men to attack them and he routed them. He recovered all the goods and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other people.

Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, and he blessed Abram, saying,
“Blessed be Abram by God Most High,
 Creator of heaven and earth.
And blessed be God Most High,
 who delivered your enemies into your hand.”
THEN ABRAM GAVE HIM A TENTH OF EVERYTHING.

HEBREWS 7

This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, his name means “king of righteousness”; then also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace.” Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, LIKE THE SON OF GOD HE REMAINS A PRIEST FOREVER.

Just think how great he was: Even the patriarch Abraham gave him a tenth of the plunder.

You should appreciate how rare that gift is…one in a million.

As for Preller, since I have been less kind than that at times about his work, I need to at least give him strong props for rebuilding his prospect cache, particularly with his international signings. Now if I could counsel him to retain them and develop them into the major leagues as opposed to chasing shiny free agents or trades.
