MegaSchism! 25% of United Methodist Churches Have Left Over Same-Sex Acceptance
Protestia ^ | December21, 2023 | staff

The United Methodist Church in the United States has lost one-fourth of its churches in the last four years over their acceptance of same-sex marriage, in what has become the most significant denominational divide in the country in the last 150 years.

According to United Methodist News, 7660 congregations have disaffiliated from the demented denomination, including 5642 this year alone.

The UMC has over 30.000 churches in the United States and is the second biggest denomination behind the Southern Baptist Convention. In many cases, however, the UMC did not let them leave on peaceful terms but rather requested huge fees to keep their church buildings- sometimes up to half the cost of the property. Some state conventions have refused to offer buyout options, insisting that those choosing to leave must leave their church behind- real estate that is often worth millions- resulting in lawsuits and other legal action.

With the latest exodus, the faithful are by and large all gone, with the remaining churches populated by goatlings with Christian ideations that can’t agree on how badly they hate the bible or on the best way to molest it into affirming the doctrine of demons.

While the main reason for splitting is the long-fought war within the UMC over homosexuality and the UMC’s acceptance of it, it’s of note that the conservatives within the UMC aren’t particularly conservative either. For years the UMC has supported a woman’s right to choose abortion as an option to be considered. In fact, for over 40 years, their Book of Resolutions affirmed the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision.

They support strict gun control and even guns being banned altogether. They allow women leadership into the highest level of leadership, condemn capital punishment, and condemn creationism.

Out of the 7660 churches leaving, only a fraction would even be worth attending.

If I recall correctly, the present day United Methodist Church was formed from a merger of some other Methodist denominations. So they claimed to be United at the time of the merger.

And now they’re splitting because of homosexuality.

It’s against scripture, and it shrinks membership. There is no upside.

New names? Schismed Methodist Church, Divided Methodist Church, Breached Methodist Church or Methodist Church of Discord. I’m just putting it out there if they want to re-brand themselves.

Sounds like 25% made the right choice. Which means 75% made the wrong choice. Humans were gifted free will but are not exempt from the fruits of choosing poorly ... as Judgement Day approaches.

The Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church — basically German Methodists going back to colonial days —merged in 1968.

Her pastor certified Hillary Clinton as “a good Methodist” back in the day. I wonder what side of the schism she’s on? (Well, not really.)

Nominating this paragraph as the best summary of the whole stinking mess that the UMC.

No different that a schism in Catholicism that has lasted 1500 years.

But that’s OK, cause hey, they are all Catholics and it’s OK for them to do it but nobody else.

What a gross misrepresentation of what conservative Methodists believe! These things were ALL - ALL driven by the far-left progressives who infiltrated the upper levels of UMC hierarchy over the space of 40 years. My church disaffiliated and you can’t find ANY of those things supported by lay or clergy.

There’s a huge upside...to those churches who left. They can practice biblical Christianity and not be forced to cave to the rainbow mafia.

I find it somewhat ironic that people should be criticized for splitting and causing a “schism” when they do it because of false teaching.

What are they supposed to do? Stay and support it? Then they’d be criticized for that.

Damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

I asked one of the "remainers," the pastor of a UMC church. He said they had "felt led" to stay and "work within the denomination."

Folks have been looking the other way and tending to their own careers for a century or so, and the denomination has implacably charged for the cliff. Cherchez l'argent. Follow the money. The denomination holds the retirement plans of its full-time "ministers."

As Bill Clinton put it, "Drag a $100 bill through a trailer park ..." Or as Jesus said, where your treasure is (and let's not go all metaphory and sugar-coat that blunt statement of fact), there your heart will be also. You can't serve God and mammon. A bribe blinds the eyes of the wise.

In 1977, I held a UMC license to preach, and thought the denomination had enough residual integrity to be redeemed. A wise pagan friend told me, "Tom, you are like a man who sees a freight train heading for a cliff. And you don't know the first thing about freight trains. You just know it's going in the wrong direction. And you are determined to jump on board and turn it around." Bobby was right. The denomination had already tolerated its hijackers for most of a century, and had acquired too much Gadarene inertia.
