Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 8

Philip and the Ethiopian

26 Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” 27 So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian[a] eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means “queen of the Ethiopians”). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. 29 The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.”

30 Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.

31 “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

32 This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading:

“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter,
and as a lamb before its shearer is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
33  In his humiliation he was deprived of justice.
Who can speak of his descendants?
For his life was taken from the earth.”[b]

34 The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” 35 Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.

36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” [37] [c] 38 And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. 40 Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Abba, Father Who Art in Heaven,
Blessed Be Your Holy Name!
How we love to sing Your praises,
To Lift Up Your Holy Name in Worship,
For You Alone are Worthy of Praise.
For You are Holy, Righteous and Just,
And Glorious in Majesty!
You Alone Are The One True God.
You are the Only One We Must Turn To.
Perfect in All Your Ways
Ancient of Days,
King of Kings,
And Lord of Lords!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

This is one of my favorite incidents in The Book of Acts. It shows that The Message of Salvation was for ALL People, regardless of their race, color, nationality, social status (The man was a slave, albeit a very wealthy one), and physical handicap (he was a eunuch, which would have barred him from the Old Testament Temple). While he wasn't the first Gentile to believe the Gospel, he was, perhaps, the person who brought Christianity to Ethiopia.

Raiders of the Lost Ark, the iconic movie that came out in 1981, was the beginning of much more than the "Indiana Jones" Franchise. Like The Discovery of King Tut's Tomb, by Howard Carter in 1922, the movie sparked an enormous popular interest in archaeology, especially The Ark of the Covenant. The History Channel, Smithsonian Channel, Science Channel, and Discovery regularly have programs about the Ark and its mysterious disappearance from History. It is last mentioned in the Bible when King Solomon installs it in his newly-built Temple. It is NOT listed among the loot removed by the Babylonians, and one can not imagine them leaving it off the list by mistake...so where did it go?

Of course, there are dozens of theories. One, explored in the movie, was that it ended up in Egypt for safe-keeping, and could only be found using secret codes. Another theory was that Templar Knights found it under the Temple Mount and whisked it away to France or Scotland. Yet another theory is that King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba had a romantic relationship resulting in a son named Menelek, who stole the Ark and took it to Ethiopia. Since this is the most romantic and exciting theory, it seems to be a favorite of the TV producers.

It's as good a theory as any other, but, as today's story from the Book of Acts shows us, there were Ethiopians who at least respected the Jewish Faith as far back as the First Century. Here was an Ethiopian Eunuch, a "slave", although he had an excellent position as Treasurer to the Queen, going all the way from Ethiopia to Jerusalem to WORSHIP. He also had in his possession a Scroll of Isaiah and was reading the Text and puzzling over it when he encountered Philip. (Presumably there was a driver, as texting while operating a chariot is next to impossible!) The passage was, of course, Isaiah 53, and Philip was happy to explain that it was about The Messiah.

So, where did these Ethiopian Jews come from? Could they have been inspired by Menelek and the Queen of Sheba? Evidently, the Government of Israel considered these African People "Jewish", as they rescued a large number of them from annihilation in a secret operation known as"Operation Solomon".

So, we have an idea where the Ethiopian Jews came from, but what about the Ethiopian Christians? Perhaps this very Ethiopian Eunuch Court Treasurer brought the Good News to Queen Candace, his boss, and the rest is History. Oh, and by the way, those very Ethiopian Christians say that THEY have the Ark of the Covenant, under lock and key, and inaccessible to the public, atThe Church of Our Lady of Zion, in the middle of nowhere, in Northern Ethiopia.

All this from a little bit of The Book of Acts! See why I love it so much?

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Oh Father God, Creator of all that is living, I come to You on behalf of Your beloved land Israel... She is at war...She is being persecuted now.

Habakkuk 3:2 O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.

Psalm 18:29 For by You I can run against a troop, By my God I can leap over a wall.

We TRUST in YOU oh God....we TRUST in YOU!!!

Ethiopia, such an interesting topic. I heard DNA testing was done there looking for connections to Solomon. American Jews I know seem to look down on Ethiopian Jews, maybe because they’re Messianic Jews. I’ve also read the ark they have was determined to have been constructed during medieval times, so there’s that controversy. The Ethiopian Christians I met during deployment to the Horn of Africa are a happy, warm-hearted people. They have joy even though they are under serious threat from the Islamists all around them. God bless our Ethiopian brothers and sisters, can’t wait to see them in Heaven where we can all worship our King together!

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 1

1 Happy are those
who do not follow the advice of the wicked,
or take the path that sinners tread,
or sit in the seat of scoffers;
2 but their delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law they meditate day and night.
3 They are like trees
planted by streams of water,
which yield their fruit in its season,
and their leaves do not wither.
In all that they do, they prosper.

4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

It seems the ark eventually ends up in Heaven.

Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant. And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a severe hailstorm.
