Beautiful.
Good.
Paul has always been my favorite apostle................
Remarkable paintings and fenster.
#1-2 The always powerful Caravaggio. His composition is austere, focusing on the fallen Saul bathed in light, in the sublime revelation of Christ’s truth. The light in this work not only suggests divinity but also draws attention to Paul’s rapt expression.
#8 Maino
#9 Reni
#12 Solimena, very dramatic scene of the chaos and frenzy among Saul’s retinue to their leader’s fall and blinding.
Thank you, Dan!
Mine, too................
I know you don't get baseball, Alba, but you hit a home run!
Mironov (#30) strips away the chaos of the scene to focus directly on what was happening within Saul/Paul at that moment.
Yes, Scott--well said. I've noticed that seems to be his usual strategy for approaching these scenes--an example is the masthead painting at the top of this page.
I've wondered why more artists don't use that approach. Perhaps it's because it requires the self-confidence to bet the whole painting on one's ability to paint convincingly the desired facial expression in close-up. Mironov certainly possesses that self-confidence....
I’ve been very impressed by his works that you have shown in this series. Artists that dare to put it on-the-line, as you suggest, can sometimes create something perfect and timeless.
That one is fantastic as well.
“The man born blind” is one of those spectacular pieces in the same vein.
One of his great paintings. Her total surrender is strong in her eyes.
Any idea how he supports himself? Does his art sell well?
Sorry, I don’t. He has an agent and I think his paintings, especially the portraits, sell well. Just my opinion.
