HOW THE TWO PHARISEES’
SALVATION WAS SURPRISING:

1. THEIR SITUATION—As Pharisees, they were embedded in an official culture that opposed vehemently Jesus’ claim to be the Messiah; undoubtedly, they faced stiff pressure to conform.

2. THEIR INDEPENDENCE—Yet Nicodemus met with Jesus personally to inquire for himself. Probably he shared his findings with Joseph.

3. THEIR ACTION—Joseph petitioned Pilate for Jesus’ body and donated his personal tomb, and it was the two of them—after Jesus’ disciples had fled—who removed Jesus from the cross and entombed Him.

4. THEIR OUTCOME—Joseph and Nicodemus knew better than anyone just how dead Jesus was. When Jesus arose, did He not reveal to them just how alive He now was?

For biblical artists, they can hardly ignore the Deposition.

How stunning that the disciples all skedaddled and two Pharisees stepped up!

Do you have any time for the old testament stuff. The stuff that they taught to the youngster’s and the older ones pre 1900’s. Before the progressives destroyed the christian church?

I've gone through the entire Old Testament twice, nearly 400 threads. Here is a link to an up-to-date Archive, which appears at the bottom of each thread. I strongly recommend Series 2--the first series is rather amateurish.

Over time, many of the hot-linked images lose their links and disappear.

I have no idea yet whether the Spirit will direct me to a third journey through it. That is entirely up to Him.

You might note that I avoid the progressive bias implicit in the 2011 NIV by using only the excellent 1984 NIV.

Once in awhile, I come across a piece which tells the whole story, but it is rare. Triptychs are good at that. The one I recall immediately portrays Esther. I expect Alba could name several.
