So did Jonah’s shipmates!.....................
Intriguing.
What an evangelist! Despite his reluctance...............
His shipmates were Phoenicians and headed to Tarshish (not Paul’s Tarsus), a Phoenician colony on the coast of Spain.
Phoenicians were pagans, as were just about everybody else in the ancient world, but they were convinced that the God of Jonah was a true god. This would help explain why Christianity spread so fast among the pagan civilizations after the Fall of Rome.......................
Tarshish, being at the other extreme of the Mediterranean, seemed like the end of the world to Jonah. But God is not mocked...................
Lol at 14 15 16- humorously done almost.
24 is my favorite, love me some brueghel- love the Reubens painting as well
Interesting set for sure.
The whole story is High Comedy. No humans or animals were injured in the making of this book.
Lol! But the fish did get a belly ache
My presumption is that God fashioned a one-off special critter to house Jonah for three whole days.
It certainly is.
If He can create an entire Universe in six days, one fish shouldn’t be any problem at all...................
I think this is a point worth belaboring: just as God went to such extreme lengths to save Jonah, in the same way He goes to extreme lengths in attempting to rescue every human.
Some nice pieces in here…and some fun too. The Watts makes Jonah look like he was part of a zombie apocalypse (I suspect Jonah had to look and smell pretty rank after three days). The Giovannini is impressive. Molev, Tissot, Ramsey and Agee are all very interesting…and our friend He Qi reappears.
Really good group for one of the greatest stories ever told.
God does not want to see anyone die.....................
I've seen speculation that Jonah's horrific appearance was the catalyst for his effectiveness in evangelizing.
It is a testament to the freeness of our will that anyone at all, let alone the majority, is able to resist God’s wooing.................
Interesting idea…a partially-digested mess of a man telling them about a God like nothing they had ever heard of or imagined before…it would be a stark contrast to their very hard lives ruled by an elite hierarchy.
