Tissot is unique! What a remarkable artist. Never tire to look at all the details in each picture..landscape, clothing, facial expressions, mindful of the period and text, etc.
Mary-Lou called him a “hyperrealist”. I think that’s correct. But what a challenge that must have been.
The vision he experienced in a church must have been so powerful and beautiful to change him from a society painter into a NT illustrator.
James Tissot: talent on loan from God.
Good Morning Dan, and ‘gallery greetings’ to all.
What a rich display of Bible era life. James Tissot is a real favorite.
Here’s a ‘Jerusalem architecture-during-Bible-times’ question: Where did the builders get their wood to burn to make the mortar? (as you know, burning limestone to make mortar takes a great deal of wood) But Tissot’s depictions of those ancient walls is correct: some of them had lots of mortar between the joints. Ergo, building in this way was extremely expensive.
So, was the wood imported? Or possibly, was the mortar imported? Or?
Thank You Dan =:^)
The Woman at the Well,,,
That is enlightening.
Thanks
.
Just finished season One of ‘the Chosen’..
Sounds like maybe the Spirit is prompting you to research that question, Leon, and then inform us.
Things really start hopping in Season 3.
They're nearly done filming Season 4. (Because they're an independent producer and not one of the Hollywood studios, yesterday the Screen Actors Guild granted The Chosen a waiver from the current strike, permitting filming to continue.)
Of course, Season 6 culminates in the crucifixion.
I wonder what Season 7 might be?
It’s good despite It’s detractors and warts. I like that it includes Old Testament as in the Serpent in the Wilderness and that Faith is what is required to be Restored——
Physically and Spiritually.
.
Season 7——
The Lord Willing.
They haven't dropped the ball on that, still featuring OT snippets in Season 3. It's an endearing effort, each relating to the NT story it introduces; for example, Jesus refers to the scene you cite later in that same episode during his talk with Nicodemus.
That is their point of emphasis in Season 3--as well it should be!
Bttt.
5.56mm
Always a (fleeting) pleasure.
Looking forward to the “to be continued”.
269 more images, in nine episodes.
That’s a BIG LABOR OF LOVE Dan! Ditto the ‘can’t wait’
THANKS!
#51 speaks to me for some reason. Thanks as always Dan. 11 parts eh?
