Here’s a ‘Jerusalem architecture-during-Bible-times’ question: Where did the builders get their wood to burn to make the mortar? (as you know, burning limestone to make mortar takes a great deal of wood) But Tissot’s depictions of those ancient walls is correct: some of them had lots of mortar between the joints. Ergo, building in this way was extremely expensive.
So, was the wood imported? Or possibly, was the mortar imported? Or?
