Tissot is unique! What a remarkable artist. Never tire to look at all the details in each picture..landscape, clothing, facial expressions, mindful of the period and text, etc.
Good Morning Dan, and ‘gallery greetings’ to all.
What a rich display of Bible era life. James Tissot is a real favorite.
Here’s a ‘Jerusalem architecture-during-Bible-times’ question: Where did the builders get their wood to burn to make the mortar? (as you know, burning limestone to make mortar takes a great deal of wood) But Tissot’s depictions of those ancient walls is correct: some of them had lots of mortar between the joints. Ergo, building in this way was extremely expensive.
So, was the wood imported? Or possibly, was the mortar imported? Or?
Thank You Dan =:^)
