Catholic Catechism (official) moves Sabbath commandment to 3rd position from 4th. Then claims Sunday is the Lord's day without citing a single Bible text. Just church fathers. (prophecy of Daniel 7:25)
Catechism of the Catholic Church ^ | 7/8/2023 (current) | Roman Catholic Church Vatican

Posted on 07/08/2023 4:16:50 AM PDT by vespa300

Jesus rose from the dead "on the first day of the week."104 Because it is the "first day," the day of Christ's Resurrection recalls the first creation. Because it is the "eighth day" following the sabbath,105 it symbolizes the new creation ushered in by Christ's Resurrection. For Christians it has become the first of all days, the first of all feasts, the Lord's Day (he kuriake hemera, dies dominica) Sunday:

We all gather on the day of the sun, for it is the first day [after the Jewish sabbath, but also the first day] when God, separating matter from darkness, made the world; and on this same day Jesus Christ our Savior rose from the dead.106

Sunday - fulfillment of the sabbath

Many things get written. Only by the authority of God granted to the Roman Church are such things declared ‘Truth’.
......

Bean counter,

And when Rome’s ‘truth’ is tested with the scriptures, a completely different Jesus and first importance of the gospel can be revealed.

And that’s a blow to religion’s stomach that would cause one to double over and hit their knees in sackcloth and ashes..

But religion is way too proud and powerful to do that after about 2,000 demon possessed swine years..

Islam, Judaism and every harlot daughter needs Rome to stick around as long as possible because they all rely on Rome..

Where would the world be without Rome’s truth like false God tiws day, Julius 11....

God’s 7th month has a holy appointment on the 15th. A Feast day in the Fall.

That’s the Truth of the scriptures.

Does Rome’s 7th month do the same?

Maybe Rome has been ordained to change times and law and really work for the serpent..

Thankfully the scriptures can prove Rome is actually working for the serpent in the end times.
Counterfeiting Truth.

Looking like a Lamb and speaking as a dragon comes with authority and Divine Providence.

So does Babylon falling..

Just imagine what the Catholic church would have done with the books of Daniel and Revelation, when in their control, if they had even a clue, before the Reformation identified them (the Papacy) as the Antichrist/Beast/Little Horn power?

Well, they had to play catch up, first with torture and murder, then with disinformation.

The Little Horn power (ANTICHRIST), comes out of the 4th beast, which is Pagan Rome. Right Elsie?

Can you really disparage the Church of Rome without also disparaging Her Book (i.e. The Bible)? Without Rome, the Bible is merely text … like the Koran and the Book of Mormon.

Do you actually read what refutes your reasoning, or simply persevere in parroting perverse polemics? What part of "if souls are to follow all the judgments and discernment of leadership, or the magisterial stewards and authorities on doctrine, then you have invalidated the NT church" do you not understand? Even if Rome or the EO's (or others) gave us the Bible - which neither did - that does not mean she is to be followed in all her judgments, and cannot be reproved.

And as for Rome giving us the Bible, which came first, the 39 book canon we hold to as the OT, or the Catholic church? What came first, the RCC or a body of wholly God-inspired authoritative writings, established without an infallible magisterium, and which which provided the doctrinal and prophetic epistemological foundation for the NT church

As for the NT, the fallacious premise that an infallible magisterium being essential for the establishment of a canon, and that a magisterium is to be followed in all its other judgments also applies here. Meanwhile, it is very obvious that the Catholic church certainly did not write the NT, since as said, distinctive Catholic teachings are not manifest in the only wholly God-inspired, substantive, authoritative record of what the NT church believed (which is Scripture, in particular Acts through Revelation, which best shows how the NT church understood the gospels)

Moreover, as also said, scholarly disagreements over the canonicity (proper) of certain books continued down through the centuries and right into Trent, until it provided the first "infallible," indisputable canon in 1546 - after the death of Luther.

Of course, recently I have seen some Protestant Theologians suggest we should stop using the word ‘Inerrant’. I think they really want to discard the parts of scripture they don’t like.

So what? Who here is contending for such. Meanwhile, following your predominate leadership in this are means adopting a very liberal idea of inerrancy for over 60 years.

If you even support Vatican Two then you are part of a demeaned minority of RCs on FR.

He did not use scripture; he merely referenced it, and showed how it fit with tradition.

You have this backward:

He did not use tradition; he merely referenced it, and showed how it fit with scripture.

The Pharisees believed in tradition and the tradition of life after death. See Dan 12:2.

If I have to 'SEE' some scripture; just how do you now claim it to be tradition?

Daniel 12:2
Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.

Boiling it down to understandable terms...

'When I tell you what imagery found in Scripture REALLY means,'
the magnificant Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather superior tone,
'it means just whomever I choose it to mean, neither more nor less;
but sometimes two or more different things at once.'

'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can define imagery to mean so many different things.'

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, C.SS.R, S.S.L., O.F.M, S.T.D 'which is to be master - that's all.'

Interesting questiom!

Can the Church of Rome really disparage Protestants for actually USING Her Book (i.e. The Bible) and failing to go along with stuff that she either forget to include or else the Holy Spirit didn't move on the ECFs to include into the Bible?

Don't ask me, for I only know about the anti-christ by what I read in Scripture, and not from the various things that are alluded to her/him/it.

These are the only places that the word antichrist is mentioned in the Bible.

1 John 2:18
Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.

1 John 2:22
Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist — denying the Father and the Son.

1 John 4:3
...but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist , which you have heard is coming and
even now is already in the world.

2 John 1:7
I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist
.

I wonder if Daniel and Revelation (John), describe some of the same things, but in different ways, call them different names?

Hmmm.

But Phil, it says X in Daniel and Y in Revelation. Can’t be the same.

Hmmm.

The Reformers said yes. Elsie says no.

Hmmm.

Okay. So how can you prove that the four Gospels are the Inerrant Word of God Inspired by the Holy Spirit?

What authority did God give to you?

No disparagement at all as long as you don’t try to attack the Roman Church.

If you wish to use it to save souls, please do so. If you wish to spread the Good News, then go with my fervent prayers for success.

If you use it to criticize the Roman Church, then you are merely analogous to the teenager who uses his dad’s phone to rag on his father on social media. That is when any good father will turn off the data plan and send the kid to his room.

Remember that the Bible doesn’t contain everything Jesus taught. John 21:25

Okay. Try 2 Maccabees 7. It is the quintessential Resurrection story from the OT.

The point is that the Pharisees believed it, but the Sadducees did not. Do you understand the difference?

Very well. Going to the topic of this thread and the silliness of suggesting the Roman Church arbitrarily changed the Sabbath:

It is written that The Lord is Lord of the Sabbath. Hence he can do what he wishes.

It is written that The Lord appeared to the disciples behind locked doors on the first day of the week. Hence on Sunday.

It is also written that The Lord appeared again one week later. Again on Sunday.

It is also written that the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples on the 7th Sunday after Easter (Pentecost - the 50th day).

Clearly The Lord let the disciples become accustomed to seeing Him on Sunday … The Day of the Resurrection and The Lords Day.

Finally, it is written that the apostles usually gathered on Sunday to break bread. Hence following the tradition that The Lord began.

If you need verses, please let me know.

I think I see the pebble you are trying to climb. The Roman Church is not the pope nor even the College of Cardinals. It is literally the millions of priests, bishops, and religious who have devoted their lives to the worship of God and the spread of the Good News. It is also the 1.2B people who look to these shepherds for guidance and instruction.

By comparison, the Protestant community is nothing.

The Protestant community is like the finger telling the body, “I don’t need you(Roman Church) because I have the head(Jesus Christ).”

Funny thing though: I have never seen a finger growing from a head.

Meanwhile the body looks at the finger and says, “it has caused me pain ever since Luther slammed it in the door, but I would rather leave it alone praying that it gets better than cut it off and watch it die.”

Do not all belong to Christ?

Why do you disparage your brother?

——>If you need verses, please let me know.

It would be helpful and appreciated if you could post the verses abolishing the Sabbath, or, somehow transferring that solemnity to Sunday. Because unless those two things happened, Sunday worship in place of the Sabbath is an abomination unto the Lord.

The Catholic church says there is absolutely no biblical AUTHORITY for abolishing the Sabbath or transferring it’s solemnity to Sunday, notwithstanding your “it is written” statements.
