I suspect there is a chain of custody issue with the shards' provenance, so you either have to believe they are genuine or not.
History matters.
The nativity was a real, historical event. Jesus was born a boy, not a girl. He was born in a real place, at a real time. It’s not a fable.
Jesus’ ministry was a real, historical series of events. He did them in a real time, at real places. It’s not a fable.
Jesus’ crucifixion was a real, historical, event. It happened at a real place, at a real time; real people committed it, real people witnessed it. It’s not a fable.
Jesus’ resurrection was a real, historical event. It happened at a real place, at a real time. Real people witnessed His appearances after His resurrection. It’s not a fable.
Archaeology and the preservation of relics remind us, who are very distant from these real historical events, that they are in fact real and historical.
Some people say they “have faith” and “don’t need archaeology, history, and relics”. To them, I say “bully for you”. Maybe I don’t need them either. I still appreciate the archaeology, history, and relics.
👍
I assume that Jesus did what He did, and did not do what He did not do, for very good reasons.
If He chose to leave His cross behind, for example, I assume that He did so for very good reasons.
But feel free to be sarcastic. I’m sure He understands.
Kings statement is: He is keeper of the faiths. . .used to say Keeper of the faith.
Charles made this change to accommodate muslims. Rejected.
All of that is real, but none of this crap the RC church does is for the glory of God and we are to seek him. CS Lewis went to disprove Christianity and traveled to the middle East. In the process he became a Christian, not through artifacts, but through seeking.
And this conversation is ended.
God bless you, sir.
And that’s why we should never share the treasures of the Church with Protestants.
They’ll never appreciate it, nor understand.
And rightly so. The upright portion of the cross would likely have remained in place and the crosspiece used over again. The logistics that would have someone taking and hiding the whole thing, then Helena having found it intact despite being buried for almost three centuries, is very dubious indeed. Or it could well have been that local Christians buried a cross for her to find, thus getting in the good graces of the emperor’s mother, which is never a bad place to be
I think the evidence for the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin and the Sudarium of Orvieto is powerful, and boosted, if they are (and they are) first century textiles, because possession of cloth stained by the blood of the dead was ritually unclean, and keeping those would not have been done unless there was a very good reason for doing so. Not to belabor the obvious, but a few yards of cloth are a lot easier to keep and hide than a huge cross
correct, the reigning monarch is the head of the Church of England. I have serious doubts that chuck even believes in God and it was 1 of the reasons I converted from C of E to Catholicism
I’m a believer in Christ. I don’t need your trinkets and idols, thanks though.
I would have gone for the tortillas emblazoned with Jesus' face, though.
God bless you too.
I pray all true Christians see the Vatican for what it really is. Read revelations some more.
Yes and the Church of England was founded by Henry VIII and as the head of that new Church divorced his wife, Queen Catherine. Of course during his marriage to her he committed adultery numerous times with various women but got on especially well with Anne who wanted to be the new Queen Anne. She got her way.
After that the so called pious Henry had Queen Anne beheaded and married another. She didn’t please him anymore.
Charles as the head of the same church had an affair with Camilla while married to Diana. I get Camilla was around first but well then that is fornication.
Things haven’t changed so much but the scripture says “If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, regard him as you would a pagan or a tax collector” ~ Matthew 18:17
So Henry VIII was excommunicated. It’s not a great resume but he still got the job as head of the Church of England.
I’ve often wondered how the members of the Church of England reckon with this history. Personally I can’t see how God can put His blessings on that Church.
Oh, brother. [smh]
Noah could have built his ark from all the (reputed) shards of the “true cross” scattered about.
Actually 2 Kings 18:3-4 comes to mind for me.
Trinkets from the Holy Land. Kids have been selling them on every street corner for the past two thousand years. I guess the Pope bought one of them.
I love Neil Oliver's recent take on it:
I would’ve given him an iPod containing a recording of me reading Spare by Prince Harry
