The Catholic hatred that I see on display here on a regular basis is shocking and sad. I pray for the haters.

I don't think it is hatred of Catholics as much as disappointment in this pope that you see here on FR, coupled with our difficulty in reconciling with what appears to be a conditional religion of works. I think it is Catholic theology or perhaps more accurately Catholic polity that is problematic for many of us. Along with being told that the Catholic church is the only true church.

John Paul, however, was much admired and respected as a true believer by many, of not most of us.

No literal or actual hell - really? When a pope contradicts the Son of God, that pope is standing on shifting sand.
