It still goes on today.......................
Specify “it”.
Prodigal sons (and daughters).................Prodigality?..IZZAT a word?.............
You are correct, of course. Not MY kids, but yes.
#6 Nicolas-Antoine Taunay, a French artist well known for his lush landscapes. He worked for the artistic mission in Brazil for some years before returning to France, disappointed by the slow progress of the mission. When painting biblical scenes, he included in many works the luxurious Brazilian landscapes.
#15 Gerard van Honthorst
#26, Luca Giordano, the great and energetic Neapolitan artist of the Baroque period. His artistic output was huge and most of his paintings deal with religious themes.
Thank you, Alba, for introducing us to what otherwise would be just names on the page.
Some Musically Talented Harlots in #20.
It seems that the Prodigal Son made off with the family Lute.
17 “is that a monkey?” 19 “yes”
I enjoy #15 as well, and thanks to you, I recognize the ‘Caravaggio style’, in the use of shadows and light - so different and very dramatic - a great style!
Good Morning Dan, and Good Thursday to all.
Wonderful topic, of which some believers are familiar.
#15 Van Honthorst
#24 Rembrandt sketch; love the way that a master artist shows much with few lines-
#26 Giordano
Thank You Dan =:^)
We appreciate your teaching etabeta; thank you.
“... the Prodigal Son made off with the family Lute.”
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Hee hee... nice pun
Harry putting his special twist on it today…
LOL
Lute of Loser
Monkey see, monkey do.
I’ve noticed that Matthias Stom also favors the drama of candlelit scenes.
Thanks, Leon. Always a pleasure.
Like #16 because of some of the detail. People with bad teeth, smallpox or other type of scars. Probably accurate depiction of people at the time the painting was done.
Rembrandt drawing is good, can’t help but wonder what that simple thing is worth.
