IMPRISONS JOHN |
Seems that Herod didn’t like John’s chiding for marrying his brother’s widow...............Sounds vaguely familiar....................
Nothing new under the sun.............................
Or in the bed...........................
I thought the brother was still alove.
But yeah, one does not have to be a Mighty Hunter to find paralells in our own time.
Good Morning, Dan. :-)
And a very good morning to you also, Mary-Lou.
Oh yes he was still alive. I just looked it up.
What made it egregious was they were both divorced.................
It’s Good To Be King”...Herod
Good Morning Dan, and goodly Tuesday to all.
#5 De Grebber; Herod, the pompous murderer.
#21 the Wiener Dog incites the crowd!
Thank You Dan =:^)

Well said -
A sad but inevitable day for John.
Thanks! :-)
Good morning!
#18 - wow. That one is powerful.
I agree, Allegra. That artist made a STATEMENT.
Favorites are #3 and #4; the Ghiberti relief at $8; the 16th/17th c. Spanish wood sculpture at #29.
The panels at #7 and #24 are from the 15th c. Silver Altar of St. John, magnificent work by the silversmiths of Florence.

So, the Silver Altar was 116 years in the making. What a labor of love!

Thank You etabeta; I was wondering about those. Surprising that they have not been looted for the metal value.
I think that in the Middle Ages petty theft was common but not the stealing of these kind of art works. Punishment was very harsh, either by public humiliation, flogging or mutilation. Maybe the thieves of those times did not have the “sophistication” of today’s thieves.
