Could One of These Men Accede to the Throne of St. Peter?

A Filipino cardinal known for riding public transit and making YouTube videos of himself singing and playing guitar is one of the leading contenders to follow Pope Francis, whose poor health is raising questions over his tenure as head of the Catholic church.

Other prospects include a more daring liberal, Pietro Cardinal Parolin, the Vatican secretary of state; a Hungarian, Peter Cardinal Erdo, who is frontrunner in the conservative camp; and a compromise candidate, Matteo Cardinal Zuppi, the archbishop of Bologna.

These names are moving to the van as Francis’s health is failing visibly. Last week he canceled a trip that had been scheduled for July to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This has raised questions about who will replace him on the Throne of Saint Peter.

His Holiness seems to sense that the end of his papacy is nigh. This month he announced the creation of 21 new cardinals. It is apparently an effort to secure his legacy. He will leave behind several frontrunners in the case of his decease or — as recent reports have suggested — resignation.

Luis Cardinal Tagle, the Manila-born proprefect of the Dicastery of Evangelization sometimes characterized as “the Filipino Francis,” will be the bookmakers’ favorite.

His Eminence has a reputation for having a common touch, preferring public transit and making YouTube videos of himself singing and playing guitar. His rhetoric in defense of Catholic doctrine ...

Could one of these accede to the throne of St. Peter?

>”Throne?” Jesus Christ is the only one on the throne according to the New Testament. The very notion of a “throne” for any Christian, including Peter, is alien to the New Testament.

Such a notion derives from the “kingdom now” Amillennial theology of the Papacy...who claim this present time since the cross and before the second coming, is the millennial kingdom... is not what the New Testament teaches. Not until Christ puts all enemies under his feet, Psalm 110, does he rule this earth for a thousand years.

Which (all his enemies put under his feet) has obviously not happened yet. Look around you, the enemies of Christ are legion.

Hence, the subjects, and servants, of God’s kingdom, those that are presently under his rule, have not inherited the millennial kingdom yet. They await it.

My own (obviously non-exhaustive) list of possible future popes rated from 0 (horrible) to 10 (great) from a few years ago. Not sure if any of these names have passed on since then. And I suppose if I did it again today the number would most likely change slightly and other names would be on the list.

0: Pietro Parolin, Christoph Schonborn
1: Gianfranco Ravasi
2: Sean Patrick O’Malley, Luis Tagle, Peter Turkson, Matteo Maria Zuppi
3: Wilfrid Fox Napier
4: Dominik Jaroslav Duka
5: Peter Erdo, Marc Ouellet
6: Mauro Piacenza
7: Gehard Ludwig Muller
8: Angelo Bagnasco
9: Willem Jacobus Eijk, Albert Malcolm Ranjith, Angelo Scola
10: Raymond Burke

Considering there is no such thing as “The throne of St. Peter” I doubt any one can ascend to it.

Yet there’s no contemporary evidence that the Apostle Peter ever held any office in the church at Rome. Nothing. The first Bishop was Linus and Esubieus sets the path from there. Rome never even comprehend such an office as “pope” until almost 300 years after the death of Christ. They were always a plurality of elders until then. Pesky facts get in the way.

Not Catholic, and my only leader is YESHUA. Still, it would be nice to have a pope that stands up to Marxism again, instead of rubber stamping it.

“I believe Clement was the first pope?”

Linus was the first Bishop of Rome. The office of “pope” wasn’t invented until almost 300 years later.

There’s going to be a lot of folks who according to most ‘should be there’ that won’t be.

There’s also going to be quite a few folks who are there that very well deserve the other destination.

If you believe Jean Dixon the last Pope was supposed to be Pope Paul VI According to her “prophecies” he would be replaced with a group of Cardinals.
(A GIFT OF PROPHECY by Ruth Montgomery)

But then, Jean Dixon also predicted, on the front page of the STAR tabloid, JEAN DIXON SAYS, NIXON WILL NOT RESIGN! It hit the news stands the day Nixon resigned.

Ten years later her publicity agents claimed she DID predict the resignation. (No she did not!)

There have been several Popes from North Africa.

Which popes came from Africa?
Three early popes were from the Roman Africa Province. These were Pope Victor I (reigned c . 189 to 199), Pope Miltiades (reigned 311 to 314) and Pope Gelasius I (492 to 496); all three were North African men.

Remember the old saying...”If you visit Heaven there you will find Popes, Priests and Kings.

If you visit Hell there you will find Popes, Priests and Kings.”

Given the precedent set by the socialist, pro butt humper currently in the Vatican I’d not be surprised if Bernie Sanders was the next Pope.
