The Bible In Paintings 2 ENCOURAGEMENT FOR APPRECIATING AND APPLYING GOD'S MESSAGE |
J U D G E S CHAPTER 16 One day Samson went to Gaza, where he saw a prostitute. He went in to spend the night with her. The people of Gaza were told, “Samson is here!” So they surrounded the place and lay in wait for him all night at the city gate. They made no move during the night, saying, “At dawn we’ll kill him.” But Samson lay there only until the middle of the night. Then he got up and took hold of the doors of the city gate, together with the two posts, and tore them loose, bar and all. He lifted them to his shoulders and carried them to the top of the hill that faces Hebron.

Originally, Gaza was sacked and burned by Pharaoh and given to Solomon as a wedding present.
Gaza is still a mess.................

Seeing Samson carrying that door up the mountain reminds me of Christ carrying the cross up the hill. Did the inspiration to wake up at midnight come from God?
Favorites are the windows, especially #23.

God certainly still had big plans for Samson killing Philistines, as subsequent events showed, so waking him mid-night was one way to preserve him.

There was a show about Christ’s crucifixion that said the reason for the water pouring out of his side when the centurion stabbed him to check for death was that christ was severely hurt carrying his cross up the hill when he fell several times and that water accumulated around the wounded area which just happened to be where the centurion stabbed him. The strain of the load, being thag it was so heavy, plus the impact from falling could. Have contributed to that evidently.

First time I’ve heard that theory. We need a medical opinion to resolve this.

There are other medical opinions, Bob. Something abut piercing the pericardium, if I recall correctly.
Just curious: what prompted you to raise this issue on a thread about Samson?

I’m sure there are other medical, opinions, I was just relating what the TV show on Newsmax stated as a possible explanation, and if it was caused by that then it shows how rugged the trip to the hill was for christ.
The post was prompted by what post 9 stated about christ having to carry his own cross. If it was so brutal that it caused damage and fluid buildup as the doctor suggested, then it must have been excruciating-id never heard anything abpu tthat before, and if true, puts a new light on how bad the whole process of crucifiction really was physically- its not so etching I had even though about before regarding the piercing.

it must have been excruciating Crucifixion itself was so agonizingly painful--and carrying one's cross an added torment--that the word "excruciating" arose to describe it. Its root, cruc, is Latin for cross. Once I learned that, I've ceased using that word in any context other than crucifixion.

Thank you for hunting that down, Alba. “Pericardial effusion” was what I was trying to remember.
