Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said an 'indigenous cultural easement' would be created

Los Angeles is scrubbing the name of Junipero Serra, a Roman Catholic saint and missionary, from a downtown Los Angeles park, more than a year after activists vandalized statues of the 19th century priest.

Mayor Eric Garcetti announced that La Plaza Park, known as Father Serra Park, will be renamed and that an "indigenous cultural easement" would be created "to give local indigenous communities priority access to the park for practice of traditional ceremonies."

"Los Angeles is a city of belonging that takes responsibility for the mistakes we’ve made in the past," Garcetti said in a statement. "Our indigenous brothers and sisters deserve justice and today we take a step toward delivering both greater cultural sensitivity and spaces for Angelenos to gather and perform their traditional ceremonies."

The city plans to remove Saint Junipero Serra’s name from a portion of the park and will be referred to as La Plaza Park until a new name is adopted, the statement said.

Garcetti had convened a "civic memory" working group in 2019 to give recommendations as to how the liberal city could "engage" with its past. But as the group was working, left-wing activists took matters into their own hands and ripped down the statue of Serra in 2020. Another statue of Serra in Sacramento was also vandalized.

Father Serra is a powerful saint. Some people, like Calvin and Luther, hate the Catholic Church and reject the idea that the Lord uses delegates. Thus, Padre Serra park has a new name. Sad that the weak leaders in the Catholic Church hold all the cards, could easily reverse Garcetti’s decision, and fail to use the cards. Proof that the leaders are weak.

I don't think Garcetti is Lutheran or Calvinist. He sounds like a cradle Catholic to me. The Catholic Church has been destroyed from within. And it's very doubtful that any practicing Christian could find fault with Padre Serra.

. Furthermore, the reality is a lot of protestants DO have major issues with Catholic statues of Saints and are all for tearing them down, considering it to be idealotry. I haven't heard of Lutherans in particular being vehemently against statues of Saints, though.

I never would have guessed. Seems like a lot of Democrat politicians are Jewish. Garcetti had me fooled. Another one who fooled me is AG Merrick Garland. His real name is "Garfinkel" and he is Jewish and a Democrat shill.

I have yet to meet an observant, non-secular Jew who is a Democrat. Jews who are observant, and who actually practice Judaism, love Israel and love President Trump. And they also love America. Dr. Vlad Zelenko, for example, saved many lives with his "Zelenko HCQ Protocol", despite being vilified by the Left Wing Media (an oxymoron).

The largest group of ‘observant’ Jews are ‘Modern Orthodox’. They are definitely majority Democrat.

Traditional Orthodox (such as hareidi, chassidic, Agudath Israel) do tend to be Republican, but also have a significant percentage of Leftist Democrats.

Even among the ubiquitous Chabad-Lubavitch, it’s not hard to find Trump-hating Democrats.
