How many remember various sit-coms that featured a manipulative mother/mother-in-law who was always complaining about how close she came to death's door and how no one appreciated her? That's what this recent exchange between the pope and some of his fellow Jesuits calls to mind. In Slovakia last week, a Jesuit priest asked him how he was. The pope replied, "still alive, even though some people wanted me to die". The poor priest got quite the earful. "Drama queen" are the words that come to mind. Did Pope John Paul II carry on like that after he was shot? I don't recall him doing so.
Here:
"You'll really bend over backwards to defend you heretic buddies, Bergoglio and Barron, won't you, Murph?
You forgot to also ask about intimidation which I also pointed out in addition to your name calling. I'm supposed to be intimidated by being libeled as defending "heretic buddies". They are not my buddies. I don't know who Barron is in your statement. I don't know why you refer to me as Murph which is neither my real name nor my FR handle, and I don't know why you think I am buddies with either of these people.
Those are not the tactics of a normal discussion on FR. Those are tactics of name calling and intimidation:
When your facts are strong, pound the facts.
When your facts are weak, pound the law.
When both your facts and you law are weak, pound the table.
This is just like debating with people who claim that Trump said "All Mexicans are criminals" (spoiler alert: he didn't). After challenging them to actually show the quote where he supposedly said that, they switch over to a stream of accusations about how he is racist, sexist, authoritarian, whatever and even if it were all true it would not prove that he said something that he did not say.
If you think I’m imtimidating, I feel sorry for you.
You don’t have to read the articles I post if you get so offended.
No, kidding, Sherlock. So what are you complaining about?
And I wrote mine hoping that you were an altar boy. But mostly I am hoping for your eternal salvation.
You don’t have to read the articles I post if you get so offended
The article was neither intimidating nor offensive. It was simply false and a lie.
Your swift descent into name calling ("Murph"?) and slander ("your heretic buddies") when the above was pointed out was presumably meant to be intimidating, but it was sufficiently strange, weird and inexplicable that I was not offended or intimidated. I felt like I was watching Joe Biden trying to respond to a difficult question.
You’re one thin-skinned individual.
Whether I am thin or thick-skinned should be irrelevant to the discussion of whether the headline is or is not a lie (spoiler alert: it is). The only reason it seems relevant is that, unable to support the false allegation in the headline you resorted to unhinged name calling ("Murph"?) and slander ("your heretic buddies".)
The most hilarious part of your Joe Biden-esque finger-poking rant is that you are supposedly pulling these unhinged, rude and slanderous tactics to defend the Church of Christ (spoiler alert: that's not the way to do it).
Murph has never complained. She’s not as thin-skinned as you apparently.
P.S. Both Jorge Bergoglio and Bobby Barron are heretics; so there is no slander.
Everything but addressing the actual assertion at issue, which is the lie in the headline that you are unable to defend. Lies, name-calling and slander … and you claim that the other side is the one that’s not faithful to Jesus Christ. Doesn’t seem that way
No lies, no slander coming from me. You, on the other hand...
Lots of handwaving (and I guess you admit to the bizarre Joe Biden-esque name calling — “Murph”?) but nothing even attempting to refute my point that the title of this article is false.
I’ll take all the attempted deflections as an admission that you agree with me on that point.
I only agree that you are the one not telling the truth and are fond of slandering others.
The headline is false. I pointed out that it is false. You haven’t spent any time or effort trying to prove me wrong except when you posted one truncated quote where you eliminated a whole sentence to make it seem like Francis was saying something that he was not. When I pointed out that you altered the quote to change the meaning you abruptly stopped discussing the quote and moved to unrelated issues.
If you want to go back and try to make a new (unaltered) attempt to prove that he said what this article falsely claims he said then now would be a good time to do it. If you believe that proving the allegation is not possible (because it is patently false) then you are better off writing about your opinion on the thickness of my skin and hope that freepers don’t realize that is an admission that the allegation cannot be proven.
You've done no such thing.
Oh, give it a rest, you baby.
Murph refers to me as ebb and ebbster. They're nicknames we have for other and neither us are complaining about the use of them.
Grow up and mind you own business.
You've done no such thing.
Yes I did. I did so by posting the whole quote. You on the other hand falsely truncated the quote to change the meaning. Since the moment I pointed out your false editing of the quote changed the meaning, you have pointedly not discussed the quote at all, and instead changed the topic away from the issue at hand which is whether the headline is false (Spoiler alert: it is). I take that as an affirmation that you cannot disprove my point. If you could you would post the quote (the full quote) and show why it supports the assertion. That's what you do when the facts are on your side. And that's why I did it.
That's a very adult way to stick to the point at hand, which is the fact that the headline of this article is false.
It's also a bit Joe Bidenesque to complain that I should mind my own business, when I was replying to a comment you directed to me.
Go pound sand, Ed.
You remind me of Dan Quayle arguing over the spelling of “potato”.
