AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — An email defending a dress code at a local Catholic school has prompted a family to pull their kids out right before the start of the year.
Abby and Patrick McInerney had every intention of sending both their 4-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son to St. Pius X in Aurora this year. Their son was excited to see the friends he’d made there last year, too.
The Archdiocese of Denver tells the Problem Solvers, St. Pius X is in the process of phasing in a new dress code one grade at a time. It started with kindergarten girls last year, wearing skirts or jumpers, now the code is expanding to first graders this year.
However, the dress code isn’t the issue for the McInerney family, they take issue with the new explanation for it, recently sent in an email to families.
“I went to Catholic preschool, grade school, high school and a Catholic college so I was absolutely fine with uniforms but it was the qualification,” Abby McInerney said.
McInerney provided the email to the Problem Solvers. In the paragraph reminding families about the new dress code expansion, it states the following :
“As a reminder to families with GIRLS in kindergarten and first grade, your daughter must wear a skirt or jumper in our school plaid each day. Pants and shorts are not allowed for girls in kindergarten and first grade. Our world sends very confusing messages to our kids, telling them that they can choose their own gender. We work to help our kids embrace the gender God has given them at birth. One way to do this is to help them learn to dress for their gender. Let’s face it, men and women dress differently, even if they are both wearing pants! By.................

I liked wearing uniforms to school. One less thing to think about. Us girls wore shorts under our skirts because boys will be boys. ha ha ha
I sincerely hope and pray that Pius X has the strength and stamina to KEEP UP THE FIGHT FOR THE CHILDREN.
This current fad to believe that sex can be changed is right out of rogue Science Fiction or really, really stupid people.
Where are these insane people coming from?? I’d expect this garbage out of parents with kids in public school but Catholic? Why are they sending them to a Catholic school if they don’t believe in God’s word? Look for the ACLU to jump in on this ‘ruckus’ that she says she didn’t want to cause.

True. But why not uniforms? Girls in my catholic school never wore pants ever!!!!!! The uniform was a jumper for 8 years and a skirt for high school. This was the late 80’s.

I am a graduate of public schools and a private college with two degrees. I never wore a school uniform in my life. When my kids wished to enter a Catholic high school to be with friends and the school was accredited, I told the school we wanted them to enter but not be uniformed. This was acceptable to the school when I pulled out the check book for their entrance fees and my kids successfully used the facility for two years until I and my family PCSed away. Fair trade...I paid them and they educated my kids.
Uniforms are a preference, not a need. My kids, like myself, were successful in school without them.
I don’t see the need of them as it limits the discovery parts of the education by placing the students in a box with the rest of the tools and the kids become tolerant of mediocre learning success. And then every widgit looks the same and carries forward to a non-challenged mediocre life, hopefully.
Kind of like the cattle in the corral. They get fed and watered for a while and they produce milk or meat. Ever wondered if cows are bored or wanted something more? Humans shouldn’t be limited or put out like an assembly line. Let them have their independence and depiction of our world. They become more independent and eager to go forward with life rather than exist with asking why and how and not getting just because or held back to be controlled. The world’s been full of them that think this way.

They could use better terminology. “Gender” always refers to words, never people.
“Sex” is the word they were looking for. Girls and Boys are different sexes. Never use leftist terminology.

I attended schools with uniforms, and without, and I think putting kids in uniforms would be the single most effective reform measure for public schools. But it will never happen since parents want their kid to express their individuality by wearing the exact same thing as every other kid.
So a single family pulled their kids out of a school because they don’t like the reasoning behind a school policy. And this is considered newsworthy why? We’ll, I think we all know why.
Uniforms were great. A day has 24 hours....plenty of hours to wear other clothing.
