Taught?
Ordered to.
Not only do they do it, it’s the official title the church established for their priests. In clear violation of Jesus command no matter how you read it.
And in context, which is anathema to Catholics, the command is to not use the term *father* as a religious title.
Jesus at least makes sense when He talks and does not jump in the middle of a discourse on elevating religious leaders and their titles, to a child calling his male parent *father* or the common use of simply recognizing that someone is someone else’s father, and then back to the discourse on religious leaders.
He’s at least consistent in what He teaches and it makes sense, as opposed to Catholic teaching which is self- contradictory and then when someone points it out, they claim it’s a “mystery of the faith” and you just have to accept it on faith whether it makes sense or not. (IOW, don’t think, just do what we tell you)
If the Catholics can’t even understand something as basic as “call no man father,” how are they going to understand more weighty doctrines, like the plan of salvation, for instance. 😁 I am amazed at the spiritual darkness I see here. 👎
