Guest Op-Ed: 500th anniversary of the excommunication of arch-heretic, Martin Luther

This Sunday, January 3, 2021, is the 500th anniversary of the excommunication of Martin Luther as a heretic and schismatic – the greatest damage ever done to the Holy Catholic Church. He died unrepentant, without the sacraments and outside the One True Church.

Yes, Pope Leo X, who issued the excommunication decree and the previous Exsurge Domine warning (6/15/1520) to Luther, had a mixed record of papal righteousness – but in this event he is nearly unsurpassed and fairly vindicated.

In this writer's view, these documents are two of the most formidable, necessary and courageous decrees emanating from the Chair of Peter, defending the Holy Roman Catholic Church from doctrinal attack. They were subsequently, fully upheld by the Council of Trent – also one of the greatest Councils in Church history – to which we owe very much, especially on the Eucharist!

We still face great danger. With Luther, there was no warning, just 95 absurd theses appearing out of thin air.

Here today, we had a warning in 1917 at Fatima. “Russia will spread her errors throughout the world,” did Our Lady alert the three children and us Catholics.

We feel these effects today – a far more serious warning than Luther. In full deference to Our Lady and the Most Holy Trinity – it is extremely doubtful (despite assertions to the contrary) that the full, correct Consecration to Russia was done; or that the decisive 3rd Secret text was totally revealed.

The errors, it is said, will lead to “The Great Apostasy.” There seems no appetite in the Vatican, at any level, to humbly accept and remedy those grave errors. Rather, a desire to hurtle into the future with Pachamama; Amazon Culture; ecology; and global secular solutions – as moral virtue is completely ignored and vocations and faithful Catholics disappear at record speeds.

Will the Church (and our Country) continue its decline? Will we still continue to receive God’s Divine Mercy and Graces? Are we due for a severe Divine Chastisement?

I am not going to advance an opinion here – only to charitably say, we would all do well to place our own souls in a state of grace, and urge our families, friends and others to do the same.

And Pray. God is very good.

Have you even read the Bible, aMPU?

The only place where you have Faith ALONE in the text is

James
English: New American Standard BibleEnglish: King James VersionEnglish: Douay-RheimsEnglish: American Standard Version
James 2 [Context] [Commentary] Biblical Art and Illustrations
24You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.Do you see that by works a man is justified; and not by faith only? Ye see that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith.

Your comment: “Adsum - as usual, AmPu is talking what he thinks we believe instead of actually checking the facts “

Yes, it has been hard to discuss and quite frankly I don’t see facts or understanding the Bible a key component in his posts.

Thank you for your posts on the daily Mass as I try to read them before Mass.

In case you missed this post:

T A guy was getting ready to tee off on the first hole when a second golfer approached and asked if he could join him. The first said that he usually played alone, but agreed to the twosome.

They were even after the first two holes. The second guy said, “We’re about evenly matched, how about playing for five bucks a hole?”

The first guy said that he wasn’t much for betting, but agreed to the terms.

The second guy won the remaining sixteen holes with ease. As they were walking off number eighteen, the second guy was busy counting his $80.00. He then confessed that he was the pro at the neighboring course and liked to pick on suckers.

The first fellow revealed that he was the Parish Priest.

The pro was flustered and apologetic, offering to return the money.

The Priest said, “You won fair and square and I was foolish to bet with you. You keep your winnings.”

The pro said, “Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?”
The Priest said, “Well, you could come to Mass on Sunday and make a donation of $80. And, if you want to, bring your Mother and Father along, I’ll marry them.”

Understanding Scripture is for saved believers.

You’ve indicated you are not saved.

Therefore, there isn’t value in reading posts about scripture.

You can fix that issue by accepting salvation today. Now.

And you aren’t a saved believer, as you keep making false statements and deny Christ words that

Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. 50 But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”

52 Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them

By your actions and disbelief you show that you do not remain in Him and He does not remain in you

You’re welcome. I’ll pray to God that you start to follow Jesus’s teachings, Jesus who is Lord, God and Savior even if you disagree

Thank you, but as an unsaved person, you are unaware of what Jesus’ teachings mean. They are only discerned by regenerated and saved believers.

You being an unsaved person who denies Christ’s words makes it clear just how much you reject His teachings.

No, I was catholic and later came to saving faith in Christ alone - apart from rituals, and filthy works - and finally left when the Spirit enlivened the Word to me and I realized Rome did not teach the Gospel of Grace, but a religion of false works.

And since you have indicated you are not saved now, I simply do not believe your opinions about the Scriptures, since only the saved have the Spirit indwelling them.

Never-the-less, I wish you well and I wish you salvation.

Everyone is entitles to believe whatever the want. The truth or false beliefs.

Everyone with free will is able to accept Jesus and follow Him or reject the teachings of Jesus and His Good News.

Just so you know from the Catholic Catechism:

“He Himself (Jesus) explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.” Mark 16:16 John 3;5 cc 846-847

Scripture Check: FALSE

The Catholic church, nor any other church is necessary to be saved.

Saving faith in Christ alone is required to be saved.

"Upwards of one hundred and fifty passages in the NT condition our salvation upon the one thing: believing. Nothing else.

It is ruinous, tragic to add anything. Just the one thing: "believe... and thou shalt be saved."

Thirty five passages use another word, which of course just a synonym, and that is "faith."

- LSC

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

" These are written, that believing you might have life through his name."

"He that believes in Him is not condemned."

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved."

Going by your lack of knowledge of what tye church teaches, I would call it as much of an untruth as you stating you know the curriculum of seminaries.

You have denied christ by denying his words in john 6.

I wish you salvation, but first stop denying Jesus’s teachings

You have denied christ by denying his words in john 6.

Again, since you've identified as a non-saved person,
I would obviously not accept your view of what Christ is saying.

Your reading comprehension errors may explain your lack of following Jesus words.

As I pointed out, since you deny Christ’s words in John 6 and Matthew 24, you have identified as a non saved person.

Sorry, but you are trying to imply that you know what Jesus meant.

Since you’ve said you don’t even know you’re saved, that’s simply false.

If you understood the Gospel that saves, you’d be saved now.

Are you saved now cronos?

PS - I consider all your insults a badge of honor.

No, I’m saying Jesus was very clear

In John 6 that we are to eat of His body. Not symbolically

In Matthew 24 that He was referring purely to the generation He was speaking to.

You deny His clear teachings and replace it with your flawed non-Christian beliefs.

If you understood the Gospel you would be saved now. Instead you remain a denier of Christ. Congratulations.

To the unsaved, that is an opinion and not something I would value.

As you are the unsaved, a denier of christ’s very words in John 6 and Matthew 24, you definitely do not value Jesus, correct?

Your opinion: “Saving faith in Christ alone is required to be saved.”

Nowhere in the Bible is faith alone stated, except in James 2 and when translated into German by Martin Luther as part of his heresies.

This protestant interpretation was disputed by James:2:24 and 2:17 “So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.’

Paul when he speaks about justifying faith, he is talking about a convert that leads to Baptism in a general sense that works of Mosaic law does not save. James is dealing with a different situation. He is making a statement to those who already hold the faith of Jesus. James 2:1

John 3:18. Unbelief is a form of rebellion that puts offenders outside the safety of the covenant. One does not get to choose only selected parts of God’s words for faith in Jesus

The Word was with God, and the Word was God. The word became flesh.

Your statement: “No, I was catholic and later came to saving faith in Christ alone - apart from rituals, and filthy works - and finally left when the Spirit enlivened the Word to me and I realized Rome did not teach the Gospel of Grace, but a religion of false works.”

So how long were you a Catholic and what (specifically) changed your beliefs?

You don’t indicate the basis for your beliefs, apparently protestant based on Luther and others.

You seem very committed to your beliefs, but it apparent to me that they reject some of God’s truths and don’t agree with the Bible.

I have siblings that are not practicing their Catholic faith and following non catholic spouses in protestant religions, and I am concerned for their salvation.

Many of us have fallen away from our Catholic faith and as we get older return to the Mass and Sacraments. You may wish to spend an hour before the Blessed Sacrament and just listen to God.

Pray that we all follow God’s Truth.
