Salvation is a free gift of God - Have confidence you are saved!

Be convinced with these 4 biblical truths: 1. Each of us has sinned; 2. God is just, requiring a punishment for sin; 3. But out of love God sent His Son, Jesus Christ who by dying on the cross, provided forgiveness of sins in taking man’s deserved punishment; 4. Therefore, by faith alone in Christ’s sacrifice for our sins and belief in His resurrection, man can gain eternal life. Yes sir. It’s not meant to be complicated with all the rules and regulations of religiosity.

If salvation depends on my works, I’m screwed.
If salvation depends on God, then whew!, I’m in.

Fortuanately His word says savaltion comes by grace not works.

When have you ever paid for a gift? What is the definition of the word “gift”? If there are “free gifts” then there assumes there are gifts you have to pay for.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

God is not going to share his glory, by allowing people to think they can do any kind of works to help save themselves. If you can't trust that Jesus's sacrifice on the cross was sufficient, then you will be judged by the law, which no one can "pass".

YOUR QUESTION: “When have you ever paid for a gift?”

One has to accept a gift. We accept through faith and Baptism. Mark 16:16

One who desires eternal life has to keep God’s Commandments. Matthew 19:17

The term "free gift" is redundant. If you're offered a gift then it goes without saying it's free.

George Carlin has a great monolog on the English language.

So if someone gave you a bag of cow manure, you can either accept it or reject it?

Even if a gift is free, one is not required to accept it.

Acceptance is needed for validity of a gift.

One can can go back on his word or promise of acceptance and thus void the gift.

When one doesn’t understand or want to understand; one can blame blame something else.

Salvation is a gift from God to mankind that is not earned by our efforts, but as Christ told us we accept that gift through faith and Baptism and by keeping God’s Commandments.

So one can reject this gift by one’s own actions - sin.

If we are disobedient, God will “take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city” (Rev 22:19).

We need to watch with oil for our lamps. Spiritually prepared. Matthew 25:12

Canon 6 of the Council of Orange

If anyone says that God has mercy upon us when, apart from his grace, we believe, will, desire, strive, labor, pray, watch, study, seek, ask, or knock, but does not confess that it is by the infusion and inspiration of the Holy Spirit within us that we have the faith, the will, or the strength to do all these things as we ought; or if anyone makes the assistance of grace depend on the humility or obedience of man and does not agree that it is a gift of grace itself that we are obedient and humble, he contradicts the Apostle who says, “What have you that you did not receive?” (1 Cor. 4:7), and, “But by the grace of God I am what I am” (1 Cor. 15:10).

That even our acceptance of salvation is from God. Canon 7 goes on to say:

If anyone affirms that we can form any right opinion or make any right choice which relates to the salvation of eternal life, as is expedient for us, or that we can be saved, that is, assent to the preaching of the gospel through our natural powers without the illumination and inspiration of the Holy Spirit, who makes all men gladly assent to and believe in the truth, he is led astray by a heretical spirit, and does not understand the voice of God who says in the Gospel, “For apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5), and the word of the Apostle, “Not that we are competent of ourselves to claim anything as coming from us; our competence is from God” (2 Cor. 3:5).

So you reject that God gave us free will to accept or reject God?

God did not make “yes men’ Or “puppets”; He wants us to love God based on our free will.

Adam and Eve rejected God’s will and sinned.

Yes God’s graces help us in our faith and acceptance of faith in God, but we still have the choice to accept God and His Commandments and His love by our actions or we can reject God and His commandments.

When we understand John 15, we acknowledge that we are the branches that is fed by the vine (Jesus) and if we are not fruitful, then we are pruned. As Jesus told us in John 6:53 “unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you;” (Eucharist -eternal life).

These are Canons of the Roman Catholic Church. Are you saying you reject them?
