They were Southern Baptists from childhood and from what they write, they seem to have a lot of familiarity with Scripture
We both read the article. I disagree with your assumption.
And frankly too many evangelicals - and this has been true in my experience with southern baptists - are not taught Scripture as they should be.
And like many churches, there are many unsaved.
1. you say that people who are baptised into the Southern Baptist "do not have a lot of familiarity with scripture"? Isn't that what SBCs pride themselves on?
2. the article itself does not give any indication that they are NOT familiar (as you state it) with scripture.
3. Saying "are not taught scripture as they should be" is quite different from "they do not seem to have a lot of familiarity with scripture"
4. Saying "are not taught scripture as they should be" is "they should agree with me on my opinion on scripture" - right?
AMEN!
Preach it, Brother!!
I agree now days they dont teach Bible as they should. It was not always so. They do teach enough for people to know salvation is by faith alone believing in Jesus Christs death burial and resurrection. Believing in His birth is not a requirement.
As A W Tozier said, we arent alone with our thoughts long enough to process what a preacher says. We are constantly bombarded with music, t.v. travel..never a quiet time in most lives.
Once saved and having Christ in us the Bible is where we need to be reading and seeking understanding. The better we know Him through His Word the better we love Him, more real He becomes to us and the more sure we are of our standing.
If we the Church could only realize the great privilege we are offered in Christ. Only believe in Jesus. No other people have ever been offered such an arrangement. No commandments to keep and no work to be done for salvation.
Even in the millennium there will be no offer of salvation like this.
We are adopted by God and made heirs with Christ Jesus, that to me is so wonderful to think upon.
