S.F. Archbishop Cordileone Pushes for More ‘Inclusive’ Civil Unions
Breitbart ^ | 10/22/20 | Thomas D. Williams

San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone released a statement Wednesday arguing for ‘inclusive’ civil unions that disregard people’s sexual proclivities to embrace non-sexual partnerships.

“In our bishops region’s audience with Pope Francis last January during our ad limina visit (the visit diocesan bishops make every five years to the Vatican), the topic of civil unions came up in conversation,” Archbishop Cordileone wrote in a statement. “The Holy Father clearly differentiated between a civil arrangement which accords mutual benefits to two people, and marriage.”

“The former, he said, can in no way be equated to marriage, which remains unique,” the archbishop added, while urging for a broader understanding of civil unions to include non-sexual arrangements.

“I would add that a civil union of this type (one which is not equated to marriage) should be as inclusive as possible, and not be restricted to two people of the same sex in a presumed sexual relationship,” he said. “There is no reason, for example, why a brother and a sister, both of whom are unmarried and support each other, should not have access to these kinds of benefits.”

For the sake of mutual benefits, the matter of sexual activity is completely irrelevant, he suggested, and therefore people’s gender or sexual orientation should not factor into such unions.

“Marriage is unique because it is the only institution that connects children to their mothers and fathers, and therefore is presumed to be a sexual relationship,” Cordileone continued. “Indeed, the sexual relationship that marriage is presumed to involve is the only kind by which children are naturally made.”

“The nature of marriage, the place of sex within a virtuous life, these great teachings of the Church come to us from God, are illuminated by reason, and do not change,” he concluded.

The Catholics need to dump these leaders!! They are no longer true Christians. The Pope is the last true Pope.

I had always thought the purpose of mutual benefits was intended to assist natural familes; i.e., heterosexual married couples to raise their own children.

Actually, the original “civil union” idea was so that two people could form what the government would recognize as a household for tax, inheritance or benefit purposes. This could be anyth8ng from an adult child living with an elderly parent to sibl8ngs living together to an elderly man and woman who client marry for legal or financial reasons, to a pair of people of the same sex. But it was not comparable to marriage, had nothing to do with sex, and there was no ceremony or anything involved with it.

Naturally, the gay lobby got ahold of it and things have never been the same since.

So I think Cordileone was trying to put a good face on Bergoglio’s statements, although unfortunately Bergoglio himself related it specifically to gays so I don’t think there’s much hope there.

Come on Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, homosexuals are people doing something wrong. There is nothing normal about two men or two women living together in sin. Stop trying to normalize it. Be the part of the clergy that you were promising to be when you were ordained. Do not wimp out now.

Thanks for sharing. Imho, I Absolutely refuse To believe he’d say anything that grossly immoral until we get confirmation.

“Marriage is unique because it is the only institution that connects children to their mothers and fathers, and therefore is presumed to be a sexual relationship,” Cordileone continued.

Marriage is no longer unique (child wise), because Bergoglio has no problems his homos raising children, whether by two "mothers" or two "fathers":

By that measure, how is a "civil union" any different than an organization established under contract law?

This is actually the inevitable result of having governments meddle in the institution of marriage in the first place. It never should have happened. Now you have every assortment of mutants and misfits clamoring to have their "civil unions" recognized under civil law. Good look putting that cat back in the bag.

Why, then, restrict these so-called "civil unions" to only two individuals?

When my father died at an early age, my Mom had five of my siblings still living in her home.

I had my suspicions about Cordileone but have given him the benefit of the doubt until now; there is no longer any doubt.

“Homosexual people have the right to be in a family. They are children of God. You can’t kick someone out of a family, nor make their life miserable for this. What we have to have is a civil union law; that way they are legally covered.”

Why is Cordileone conflating homosexuals with "a brother and a sister, both of whom are unmarried and support each other," if not to defend an apostate pope?

That was precisely my point. Bergoglio himself related it to gays and not to a general household agreement.
