California’s Grace Community Church and its head pastor, John MacArthur, won the right to continue meeting in person for worship on Friday after state ordinances deemed religious services as unessential, but it was quickly overruled by an emergency order enacted by the California Court of Appeals the next day, making it again illegal for the church to meet indoors.
“At this very preliminary stage in this litigation, the County has demonstrated a likelihood that it will prevail on the merits of enforcing its July 18, 2020, Health Order,” the three judges wrote in the opinion on Saturday.
The county of Los Angeles attempted to file a “temporary restraining order,”’ but Judge James Chalfant sided with Grace and “denied almost all of the county’s requests” claiming that the church “should be permitted to infringe on the constitutionally protected rights of churches to freely exercise religion” as long “congregants wear masks and social distance between family groups indoors.” A full hearing will be held on September 4, 2020.
Grace Community Church has been embroiled in litigation since they first defied California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s orders to cease indoor gatherings in certain counties in early July.
“We do not need the state’s permission to serve and worship our Lord as He has commanded,” the church said. “Freedom of worship is a command of God, not a privilege granted by the state.”

I’m not a church goer but I hope the churches nation-wide will consider uniting in civil disobedience.
Didn’t John Roberts already rule that the Bill of Rights don’t apply in California if Comrade Governor declares an “emergency”.

Seperation of church and state is sacred. The government guides; the church guides. They are not to intersect.

I went to Grace Community a few weeks ago. I’m still alive. Screw the Government.
The Democrat party is pure EVIL! The Democrats are afraid the if Church goers get together they will be overwhelmingly for Trump. Vote DEM Out!

Their order claims teh potential for spread of COVID indoors, in spite of social distancing and masks, is so great that the constitutionally protected exercise of religion is null and void. Unlike, say, a gay bar, restaurants, office buildings, Ace Hardware, etc.
Guess California’s position - which Chief Justice Roberts undoubtedly agrees with - is that Christian worship is verboten until COVID has a vaccine. An idea that would be utterly foreign to anyone in early America.

My lawyer brother told mme there is precedence in that if one can prove a law is not applied equally at all times...the law is not enforceable. Example. If people jaywalk all the time and police see it and dont ticket it...they cannot ticket you either. I don’t know what the corrupt cali lawbreakers in sacramento will do.
Our pastor finally decided that the way to keep the congregation safe was to bring them in out of the 100 degree heat. We will no longer submit to a Christian hating demagogue. We will serve the Lord.
