Joe Biden has embraced an increasingly radical pro-abortion position that contradicts his so-called Catholic faith.
Presumed to be the Democrat presidential nominee, Biden recently abandoned his opposition to taxpayer-funded abortions and promised to codify Roe v. Wade into law. Last week, he went even further and called the killing of unborn babies an essential medical service during the coronavirus pandemic.
His anti-life position should disqualify him as a viable candidate for Catholic voters. As Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City, Kansas, said, and Pope Francis later confirmed, the abortion issue should be a preeminent priority for every Catholic voter.
The Catholic Church teaches that every human life is valuable because he/she is created in the image of God, and abortion is evil because it destroys Gods most precious creation, a baby in the womb. Every year in America, nearly 1 million unborn babies are slaughtered in legal abortions. Since Roe v. Wade, more than 61 million have lost their lives.
But rather than recognize the injustice, the immorality of abortion, Catholic politicians like Biden try to spin the abortion issue as a matter of womens rights and well-being.
The National Catholic Register recently highlighted Catholic leaders struggle with Bidens growing radicalism.
Once, the Democrat leader was more moderate on the abortion issue. But he began to shift more toward life-destroying policies in 2008 when he ran as President Barack Obamas vice president.
And Catholic leaders took notice. According to the Register:
In September 2008, Archbishop Charles Chaput and Bishop James Conley responded to comments Biden, then a senator from Delaware, made on Meet the Press, as the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, that while he was prepared as a matter of faith to accept that life begins at the moment of conception, he would not impose that belief on anyone through law because that would be inappropriate in a pluralistic society.
Abortion is a foundational issue and is always grievously wrong, Archbishop Chaput and Bishop Conley stated, adding that, in reality, modern biology knows exactly when human life begins: at the moment of conception. Religion has nothing to do with it.
If, as Sen. Biden said, Im prepared as a matter of faith to accept that life begins at the moment of conception, then he is not merely wrong about the science of new life; he also fails to defend the innocent life he already knows is there, the two bishops said.
Biden also was corrected by his own bishop, Bishop Francis Malooly of Wilmington, for misrepresenting Church teaching on abortion in an October 2008 newspaper interview. And he was publicly rebuked by Bishop John Ricard of Pensacola-Tallahassee, Florida, after he received Communion during a campaign trip to Florida the weekend before the election.
Since then, Biden has aligned himself even closer with the billion-dollar abortion industry, which donates millions to pro-abortion Democrats political campaigns. Last year, Biden promised to end the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits taxpayer-funded abortions in Medicaid. He also said one of his first acts as president would be to restore funding to Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion chain in America.
Biden recently said he would be committed to the constitutional right to an abortion and reverse the Trump administration and states all-out assault on womens right to choose. He also promised to work to codify Roe v. Wade. The infamous U.S. Supreme Court decision made the United States one of only seven countries in the world that allows elective abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
His health care plan would expand abortions as well. It would force insurance companies to cover abortions as essential health care under Obamacare.
These pro-abortion plans prompted a South Carolina priest to deny communion to Biden last October. Others have said they would do the same.
Then, in November, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops released a letter urging Catholics to oppose abortion as a preeminent priority.
Naumann, who chairs the bishops Committee on Pro-Life Activities, told the Register that the teaching is not new.
You can go back to [Pope] John Paul II and several of his statements and his encyclicals and [Pope] Benedict XVI: There are Vatican documents from the congregation, all that lift up this as an important issue, and Pope Francis has continued that, Naumann said.
The archbishop said Pope Francis agreed with him during a meeting in January where they talked about Catholic voters responsibilities.
His response to that was, Of course, it is. Its the most fundamental right, Naumann told CNS. He said, This is not first a religious issue; its a human-rights issue, which is so true.
Biden abandoned his faith and the basic principle that human rights are for all when he began to support abortions. He ignored the mass slaughter of innocent unborn babies. And he should not be an option for Catholic voters.
how many Catholics will change their mind because of this?
It is about time theCatholic church stands for something.
Few is any. Joe will get at least half of the Catholic vote maybe more. “Catholic” Dems are pretty unreachable I know a few and it’s hopeless.
As the saying goes, I wouldn’t touch Biden with a ten-foot pole.
not Catholic myself, but I understand the Bishop’s frustration. I am not 100% pro life. Life of the mother - rape - incest, it is acceptable, but you have to give the Bishops credit for speaking out.
2016 Trump carried Catholic vote 52-45 over Hillary. He got 60-37 of white non Hispanic Catholics

It depends.
If they change their minds and vote for biden they ain’t Catholic
Ten?
Mine would be 50 foot!
BiteMe is a Cafeteria Catholic, like Nancy. They worship abortion.
I’m Catholic by baptism, but I don’t like the imposter Pope. My Pope is German and being held captive in the Vatican.
**As Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City, Kansas, said, and Pope Francis later confirmed, the abortion issue should be a preeminent priority for every Catholic voter. **
BTTT!
Voting for a democrat is as evil as committing abortion yourself. No Catholic can vote for a democrat without committing a serious sin. Keep that in mind when in the voting booth.
BINGO!
BTTT!

Uhoh, you wrote something nice about Pope Francis. Someone is going to give you a verbal spanking!
I agree with you 100%, as I usually do.
