Hatred Converted Me To Catholicism
The Forge and the Anvil ^ | August 26, 2019 | Laramie Hirsch

Whenever God does ANYTHING in this world, He is opposed and hated. Anything at all. If God makes His mark, here on Earth, either the Devil tries to wreck it, or Satan inspires his children to do so. This disdain for all creation and any constructive thing is an anti-Logos, pernicious spirit of ruin. This deep brand of hate is a religious way of thinking, and this feeling can be as shallow or go as deep as it wants. The hate I’m talking about can be a subtle inclination, or it can be an overt obsession. For example, you can be either a Soviet-minded Bolshevist, or you could simply be a vandalizer—you’re serving the Evil Cause in some capacity.

So, when I left Protestantism (I was Southern Baptist*) and I was looking for the True Church—whomever that was to be—I knew that the main players for good and evil would be located in places where there was furious battle.

His first problem here is looking for something besides Christ. There is no *True Church* to join because Jesus does not endorse any one religion or denomination over and above another.

His instructions to people were to *Follow Me*.

Try looking up baptism be desire.

Oh, so there's really more than one baptism.

Or do you have a problem with a lone ex-protestant's testimony of his conversion to Catholicism?

Additionally, I do have a problem with anti-Protestant propaganda posted under the guise of it just being someone's "personal testimony of his conversion". Did you not even read the full article???

In the past here Roman Catholics have gotten threads pulled and posters zotted for opening threads that they perceived as being "anti-Catholic". Some RCs got their feelings hurt to read about former nuns and priests who left Catholicism for Evangelical Protestantism (you know, someone's personal testimony of their conversion) or threads that defended the Reformation and Reformed doctrines. I think there is perhaps too much sensitivity now towards threads that might be viewed as critical of Catholicism which has stifled the conversation and cut off the function of iron sharpening iron that theological topics can engender. We ARE warned about the atmosphere of OPEN Religion Forum threads but it doesn't seem to prevent whining and accusations of hatred for simply saying why we disagree and the RM being kept busy with abuse complaints. I'd say check your motivation for posting something and be conscious of how others may receive them. After all, if you truly want to bring glory to Jesus Christ you will:

But in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give a defense to everyone who asks you the reason for the hope that you have. But respond with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who slander you may be put to shame by your good behavior in Christ. For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. (I Peter 3:15-17)

boatbums - I read the article - did YOU read the article at all?

It only mentions non-Catholics twice and both times it is not an attack -- the second time says Who would convince me of their authenticity? It wasn’t the Baptists or the Pentecostals, and it wasn’t the Eastern Orthodox. -- note the "convince ME" - this isn't attacking the beliefs of those groups, just that the author was convinced by God in a different way - to the Church.

The article reads as one person's spiritual journey in Christ - to the Church.

There is no attack upon your or any other non-Catholic's belief system

This is nothing more than self-righteous garbage that has permeated the churches today. Everyone sees evil everywhere other than themselves. God is love. We are evil and rebellious towards that love. We hate the light. We need to honestly confess OUR sinfulness towards God and others. It doesn't do us any good to see the twig in our brother's eye when there is a log in our own.

I would suspect if you suggested to this person that he examine the sins in his own life and focus his prayers on eradicating his sins, he would become indignant. Too many people play church these days.

There's no problem at all. They rightfully exalt the One, True Church.

Which means that you must rightfully expect challenges and reproof of that elitist claim for a church whose distinctive Catholic teachings are not manifest in the only wholly inspired substantive authoritative record of what the NT church believed , rather than, like an intolerant liberal, not even reading posts that do (or lying by saying you do not), and simply relegating such to being haters, which is a liberal tactic of avoidance.

P.S. Hss there been any censorship on this thread of you protestants?

A late hour misspelling: the spelling is censure, the definition of which includes "adverse criticism, disapproval, or blame." We also censure, but the issue is your seeming expectation that you should be able to post provocative articles and make statements that denigrate others without being reproved, dismissing such as being haters, "exposing the hatred," "bumping the hatred."

Catholics do not just include Roman or Latin rite Catholics. Please change you point of view. There are 22 different rites of Catholics — all the same Mass-just different languages an rubrics.

And Americans do not just include the inhabitants of Washington. Meaning you have tried this before and been reproved, yet her you go again. As said, the use of Roan Catholic or RC,

is not in distinction btwn Latin and Eastern Rite but for all in professed subjection to and communion with the so-called Bishop of Rome, and to be one of the Catholic rites one must be in submission to/in full communion with the Bishop of Rome the pope, despite some differences in custom and liturgical practice from Latin Catholics. And the use in history of "Roman Catholic" by popes and the Vatican herself speaks to all Catholic churches in full communion with her, but which the Eastern Orthodox are not.

From Catholic sources:

After the Eastern Schism in 1054, eastern churches no longer in union with Rome came to be known as Eastern Orthodox or simply “Orthodox Churches.” Eastern Churches that remained in union with Rome are called Eastern Catholic Churches, or often the “Eastern Church.” An easy way to remember is this: “If the name of the Eastern Church as “Orthodox” in its title, it is not in union with Rome. - https://www.avemariapress.com/engagingfaith/2016/08/what-difference-between-eastern-catholic-churches-/

Are Byzantine Catholics really Catholic? Unequivocally, YES. We are Catholics in union with the Bishop of Rome (the Pope) whom we recognize as the visible ...- http://www.epiphanybyzantinecatholic.org/faq.html

And I do not know where you get just 22 rites, for my many sources count 24 autonomous Catholic churches: One Latin Church (i.e., Western) and 23 Eastern Catholic Churches" all in full communion with the Pope in Rome. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Catholic_Churches)

The Catholic Church is actually composed of 24 churches — one Latin (Roman), which comprises perhaps 98% of all Catholics worldwide, and 23 "Eastern" or “Oriental” churches. All recognize the authority of the papacy.. - https://www.catholicsandcultures.org/eastern-catholic-churches

Again. my use of RC overall encompasses all in professed subjection to the so-called Bishop of Rome, which (with a few exceptions to normatively requiring celibacy for priests) profess distinctive Catholic teachings that are not manifest in the only wholly inspired substantive authoritative record of what the NT church believed (including how they understood the OT and gospels), which is Scripture, especially Acts thru Revelation. but in distinction from Eastern Orthodox, which are held to be in schism, with irreconcilable (after 1,000 years) substantial differences , and also consider themselves to be uniquely be the one true church.

In the Nicene Creed of faith our Church is described as the "One, Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church": "One" because there can only be one true Church with one head Who is Christ... Each of these titles is limiting in some respects, since they define Christians belonging to particular historical or regional Churches of the Orthodox communion.. .“because it has all the proper attributes, the Orthodox Church is the living realization of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.” — http://www.antiochian.org/node/17076

On these threads it's Roman Catholics I'm dealing with.

Perhaps you should change your point of view?

sm: What if a person is on their way to the Church to be baptized and suddenly suffers a fatal heart attack before he can be baptized?

et: Try looking up baptism be desire.

Try showing that in Scripture. There is no Biblically supported "baptism be desire", though I think you meant baptism by desire.

Amen. I agree it’s stupid to re fight these arguments when muslims would have us all die.

There are some within other denominations that would have those of us who aren't in their denomination killed as well.

History shows this.
