August 18 is the feast day of Saint Helena. It's pretty cool that we have an account of her life written by a reliable source only a few years after her death.

St. Helena is my confirmation patron. I admire her for having a son who made something of himself. My Tom could be emperor if he had more initiative.

Look up Evelyn Waugh’s little-known short novel, “Helena,” a fictionalized account of her search for the True Cross. It’s excellent. Ditto his even less well-known biography of Edmund Campion.
