Scripture says the Angel proclaimed her “full of grace”. That is sinless. That certainly is above me.
Really where does full of grace equal sinless in the Bible I mustve missed it
No. The vulgate translation is not correct.
Luke 1:28 is more properly rendered, "28And coming in, he said to her, Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you."
The NABRE renders the passage as: 28 And coming to her, he said, Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.
The NRSV renders the passage as:
28 And he came to her and said, Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.[a]
The Greek word used here does not connatate sinlessness.
No where in Scripture is Mary, or any other created being, ever accorded being sinless. Only Christ is.
“Scripture says the Angel proclaimed her full of grace. That is sinless.”
Grace is the unmerited favor of God. It is not something we can earn or deserve. So the angel proclaimed that she was filled with the favor of God that she did not, on her own, deserve or merit. It does NOT mean she was sinless. There is only one who was sinless - Jesus Christ.
Being full of grace does not mean sinless.
Holy means sinless.
Grace is getting something we do not deserve.
Mercy is not getting something we do deserve.
Justice is getting what we deserve.
Romans 5:20 Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,
Grace is simply a free gift... Not a personal characteristic... A gracious person is one who gives freely, undeserving gifts to another. God gave Mary grace, the gift of being chosen to bear Emmanuel. Mary, no doubt, was a good Hebrew girl, but sinless and conceived w/o sin? Nope, she had parents, both human. Jesus on the other hand, was conceived supernaturally, he alone is w/o sin. As a “heretic” (former Catholic) I am particular about traditions of man bring equated with the Word of God. Grace or works, gift of God or debt owed by God, only one meets the words of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
That is very much above me also, Mary was a very special girl which is why God chose her.
