Jesus is the Life Preserver. Mary is the Rope He Chose To Reel Us In.
The Most Ancient Tradition | 06-16-2019 | Charles O'Connell

Posted on 06/16/2019 4:55:18 AM PDT by CharlesOConnell

In Captains Courageous, with Spencer Tracey, Freddy Batholomew is a blowhard millionaire's son who is socially, poorly adjusted. He uses his father's incredible wealth, to bully his classmates and even his teacher, but he's roundly disliked, and ostracized. While on an ocean liner, he unsuccessfully tries to impress some other boys by eating 5 ice cream sodas. When he has to throw up, to escape the mocking boys, he runs into a lifeboat area to evade their ridicule while purging his overindulgence, and manages to fall overboard into the ocean.

Instances of people falling overboard into the open ocean are rather commonly reported in the news. Usually they are lost, but if by chance their accidents are observed and a life-preserver is thrown to them, is that the end of the story, do we just say, "oh, well, you have a floatation device, you're okay now"?

No, we have to pull them in. The life-preserver, the lifesaver, is only part of the formula for saving their lives. There is also a rope, which must be attached to the life-preserver, and must be used to finally accomplish their salvation.

Jesus Christ is the one mediator between God and man. But on the man side of the equation, unlike the radical individuality most typified by J.J. Rousseau, we who life the life of Christians do so in communities. But even then, we do not abide as atomistic individualists. We live our Jesus-oriented life in relation to our fellows. "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." – Hebrews 10:25.

Jesus' first disciple was his mother, who gave us the total account of his early life and who "treasured these things up in her heart". "A sword will pierce your own soul too, so that the secret thoughts of many hearts might be revealed". On the cross, he gave his mother to John to take in his home, but when you take your master's mother, she takes care of you.

Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen within his temple; and there were flashes of lightning, voices, peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail. And a great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars; she was with child and she cried out in her pangs of birth, in anguish for delivery.
And another portent appeared in heaven; behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems upon his heads. His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven, and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to bear a child, that he might devour her child when she brought it forth; she brought forth a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne, and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which to be nourished for one thousand two hundred and sixty days. …
And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had borne the male child. But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle that she might fly from the serpent into the wilderness, to the place where she is to be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time. The serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, to sweep her away with the flood. But the earth came to the help of the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed the river which the dragon had poured from his mouth. Then the dragon was angry with the woman, and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and bear testimony to Jesus. - Rev 11:19 -- 12:17

She forms the body of Christ. She schools her son's disciples. Those who won't attend her school, remain ignorant.

We are in a time when any merely human institution would be washed away. Our churches are going under the shadow of a new Heresy of Ba'al of Peor, as when the Hebrew people were successfully attacked and overwhelmed through human sexuality. Our churches are now pro-gay and as soon as the civil authority authorizes child sex, they will be indistinguishable from the denizens of the town of Sodom: "Bring them out that we may know them".

Jesus' mother forms the few of the elect who will resist being fooled by the great apostasy. Those who will not avail themselves of the lifeline of Mary, will be lost.

All those OT passages you claim are about Mary are just assumptions.

There is NOTHING in them that indicates that the mother of the Messiah is the one alluded to in any OT passage short of Isaiah 7.

One would have to lay his hand flat over so many passages of Scripture, not even taking a peek, in order to say there is nothing in them that refers to the Mother of the Messiah.

Christians North, South, East and West, have celebrated these passages as glimpses and celebrations of Mary, in hymns and poetry, and as illustration, motif and prophecy, for millennia, and still do.

The Mother of the Incarnation is great, only because the Incarnation is great beyond all telling.

And the Virgin of Nazareth, daughter of Abraham, of the House of David, in her wonderful hymn sees these blessings extending from the far past to the far future.

Knowing she has conceived Christ, she, the mother of Our Lord, say this is "according to His promise to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.

Ancestors and descendants.

"Behold, all generations will call me blessed."

The woman and the rest of her offspring
those who keep God's commandments and bear witness to Jesus.
Revelation 12:17

Actually, it is Rome that has committed a grave error in their elevation of Mary to the status of Jesus.

Isn’t the Roman Catholic Church loosely based, or maybe not even so loosely based, on the worship of Nimrod, Semiramis and Tammuz? This would be the unholy trinity. Satan has a counterfeit, for everything that is true.

The chaste maiden; forever Virgin??

The Roman Catholic Church has turned the beautiful, blessed lady of Scripture into an asexual, frigid Jewish wife; who withheld her favors from Joseph for no rational reason.

That’s weird bro. I believe the REAL Mary of the Bible, 👍 as opposed to the false Mary of the Roman Catholic Church, 👎 was a married woman, who did the “evil deed” with her husband, and had many other children. I bet they even enjoyed their married sexual love, 👍 as well they should. Oh the horror of horrors, that Mary and Joseph actually enjoyed sex. 😁

They claim Mary became the wife of the Holy Spirit...Therefore she couldn't have had sexual relations with Joseph without committing adultery...

That’s even MORE weird. The queen of heaven was mentioned all the way back in Jeremiah. Diana of the Ephesians, was mentioned, I believe, in Acts. Now, the queen of heaven, has been put into the Roman religion. Now matter how much things change, they stay the same. 👍

The woman and the rest of her offspring those who keep God's commandments and bear witness to Jesus. Revelation 12:17

So Mary did have other children then.

Yes, Mary is blessed, but any woman who had the privilege of bearing the MEssiah would say the same.

And God has blessed ALL of us in Christ with the same grace with which He blessed Mary.

The word grace used in this passage in Luke is used in one other place in the Bible and that is Ephesians 1 where Paul tells us that with this same grace, God has blessed us (believers) in the Beloved. IOW, we all have access to that grace and it has been bestowed on us all.

http://biblehub.com/greek/5487.htm

Luke 1:28 And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!”

Ephesians 1:4-6 In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.

Greek word “grace”

charitoó: to make graceful, endow with grace

Original Word: χαριτόω

Part of Speech: Verb

Transliteration: charitoó

Phonetic Spelling: (khar-ee-to'-o)

Short Definition: I favor, bestow freely on

Definition: I favor, bestow freely on.

HELPS Word-studies

Cognate: 5487 xaritóō (from 5486 /xárisma, "grace," see there) – properly, highly-favored because receptive to God's grace. 5487 (xaritóō) is used twice in the NT (Lk 1:28 and Eph 1:6), both times of God extending Himself to freely bestow grace (favor).

Word Origin: from charis

Definition: to make graceful, endow with grace

NASB Translation: favored (1), freely bestowed (1).

Matthew 11:11Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

The kind of exaltation which Catholicism does of Mary is just flat out wrong.

They claim Mary became the wife of the Holy Spirit...Therefore she couldn't have had sexual relations with Joseph without committing adultery...

Mary was already the wife of Joseph when the angel appeared to her.

Matthew 1:18-20Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

Luke 1:26-38 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin's name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!”

But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”

And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.” And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

She can't be the spouse of both without adultery entering into the equation.

The nonsense Catholicism spews about Mary and the semantic gymnastics they go through to justify their beliefs is amazing to watch.

And this is not only to show us who God is -— He is the giver of all these good things -— but also to show us who WE are, we who are part of Lady Ecclesia, — and Mary is an image of this -— the Chosen Lady who represents the Chosen Lady.

Wow...the deception is worse than imagined.

The Lady Ecclesia????

If these were OT times some stones would be in the process of being gathered.

There is NO LADY ECCLESIA.

Paul's words to the Galatians are appropriate here.

6I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; 7which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! 9As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed! Galatians 1:6-9 NASB

**************************

And -—pay attention here, because this is the key -— because she refers everything to God.

Well....no.

As previously illustrated the overwhelming emphasis of the Hail Mary is directed TO Mary with over 50 prayers TO Mary.

Further, several of the apparitions claiming to be Mary have commanded people to build structures in her honor.

Indeed, the promise of the Scapular to trust in the apparition to keep the Roman Catholic out of the hellfire further refutes your claim.

****************** All this applies to you, too, if you are one of her children (Rev. 12:17)

As explained numerous times before, but again for the casual reader.

IF Roman Catholicism wants to claim Revelation 12 is about Mary this contradicts much of Roman Catholicism's teachings on Mary.

1A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars; 2and she was with child; and she cried out, being in labor and in pain to give birth. Rev 12:1-2 NASB

Roman Catholicism claims v1 is about Mary...yet, in defiance of sound Biblical exegesis, and grammar, the she in v2 ceases to be Mary somehow.

Why?

IF v1 is about Mary then v2 has to be about Mary. The astute reader will note the woman cried out, being in labor and in pain to give birth.

This contradicts Rome's assertion of the immaculate conception.

Why? Genesis 3:16.

16To the woman He said, “I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you.”

Again...no sound biblical exegesis would allow for the subject to switch from one person to another person within the same sentence as Rome attempts to do with Revelation 12:1-2.

All of this is done to support a non-Scriptural dogma that the Catholic Encyclopedia admits: No direct or categorical and stringent proof of the dogma can be brought forward from Scripture.

To continue to persist in this belief is to reject the Gospel.

******************************

Romans 8:32

He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

Continuing to illustrate the lack of proper exegesis of Scripture.

Context is key to understanding Scripture. You've pulled this verse completely out of context to support Rome's false dogmas.

********************

Regarding the rather lengthy, yet blasphemous listing of titles, there is a similar one called the Litany of Loreto. The listing, like this one, pretty much declares Mary to be omnipotent. (IF, as claimed Mary can do all of this, one wonders why the Roman catholic really needs Jesus?).

However, back to the listing. In 1631 by Bull of Alexander VII (1664), it was strictly forbidden to make any additions to the litanies.

But, as so often witnessed in Roman Catholicism, this too changed and additional titles were added to the Litany.

The worship of Mary in Roman Catholicism continues unabated.

It is only a matter of time before the Fifth Marian dogma is pronounced. And it will happen. As so much of Roman Catholic Mariolatry has developed, it just takes time and a desire of the people for it to happen.

To persist in this is to reject the Gospel of the New Testament.

You really have no prior Biblical training. That is abundantly clear.

No, Christ elevates His beloved--- to sit with Him at His right hand: as Psalm 16 says, "to delights at His right hand forever."

I believe this is Psalm 16:11....not that you posted the verse.

Not one of the major translations renders the passage in this manner.

You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever. NASB

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. KJV

Thou hast made known to me the ways of life, thou shalt fill me with joy with thy countenance: at thy right hand are delights even to the end. DRB

Thou causest me to know the path of life; Fulness of joys is with Thy presence, Pleasant things by Thy right hand for ever! Young's Literal Translation

In NONE of these passages in there any reference to Mary.

Here is the passage in context:

1Preserve me, O God, for I take refuge in You.

2I said to the LORD, “You are my Lord; I have no good besides You.”

3As for the saints who are in the earth, They are the majestic ones in whom is all my delight.

4The sorrows of those who have bartered for another god will be multiplied; I shall not pour out their drink offerings of blood, Nor will I take their names upon my lips.

5The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You support my lot.

6The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.

7I will bless the LORD who has counseled me; Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night.

8I have set the LORD continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

9Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will dwell securely.

10For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol; Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.

11You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.

************************

Not only have you taken the verse out of context...you've completely lifted only one part of the verse to support your false claim!!

There is NO. SOUND. BIBLICAL. EXEGESIS. THAT. ALLOWS. THIS.

Quoting verses out of context is a hallmark of those who are deceived, or, who are attempting to deceive.

You may want to review the episode of Jesus being tempted in the desert and how Satan would selectively quote Scripture...out of context.

Your adherence to the false dogmas of Roman Catholicism have really deceived you.

"Lady Ecclesia" is the same as the "Elect Lady" addressed by John. This is actually a church he is addressing. It's the noun, female, singular, of church, as a personage.

It is she, "Ecclesia", who is the bride of Christ.

You know, time and again, we’ve challenged Catholics to focus only on Jesus for a whole month.

Ignore the Mary stuff. Don’t pray to her or give any attention to her. Take all that time praying to her and focusing on her and spend it with Jesus, praying to Him and focusing on Him.

You’d think we were asking them to cut off their right arm and gouge out their eyes. The absolute horror with which they react to the challenge tells us all we need to know about their true feelings about her and the true place she holds in their heart.

"So Mary did have other children then.

Yes! Now you're getting it. scripture says, not that she had any other genetic or uterine children, but that she is the spiritual mother of "those who keep God's commandments and bear witness to Jesus." Revelation 12:17

The first of these can be seen as John (who wrote Revelation) who was given her as her son, at Calvary.
