A university professor has accused God of sexual misconduct for impregnating Mary, the mother of Jesus, without her 'consent'.

Eric Sprankle, an associate professor of clinical psychology and sexuality studies at Minnesota State University-Mankato, criticized the Biblical Christmas story, saying the Christian deity was 'predatory' .

'The virgin birth story is about an all-knowing, all-powerful deity impregnating a human teen,' Sprankle wrote on Twitter. 'There is no definition of consent that would include that scenario. Happy Holidays.'

Responding to Sprankle, someone else pointed out that Mary discusses God's plans with the angel Gabriel in the story of the Annunciation and tells him: 'I am the Lord's servant, may your word to me be fulfilled.'

Exactly what I was going to say. Also, Luke 1:31 uses the future tense: "you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son." This was advance consent, not acceptance of something that had already occurred. Apologies to any psychologists here, this won't apply to you. But back in college I made an observation and in the 25ish years since then, it's held true. The nuttiest people gravitated to psychology as a major. I figured they must be looking at it as a pathway to fixing whatever angst they have. That's not to say all psychologists are nutty, just that nutty people disproportionally become psychologists.

Anyway, this article is yet another data point supporting my observation.
