Purgatory does not exist.

I looked for the concept of purgatory from people who might know. You know, guys like Matthew Luke or John. Or that Paul guy. Didn’t find anything.

CARM is a rabidly anti-Catholic site. Not interested.

Of course. Spend a few millennia in the Cosmic Washing Machine, and you’re good for eternity. No “Blood of the Lamb” necessary.

“Spend a few millennia in the Cosmic Washing Machine, and you’re good for eternity. No “Blood of the Lamb” necessary.”

Of course you can shorten that for a “donation.”

There has never been a time that the Church has not prayed for the dead. Implicit in this practice is the belief that her prayers for the dead are in some way efficacious. God bless.

Yes it does! Just spent 3 years in Sharia Law land in the ME (Arabia). Purgatory is an apt description.

Yep. It’s not like Christ said “it’s almost finished.” on the Cross. He said “it is finished” (when translated to English, should go without saying).

If we could have paid for our sins, even a tiny bit, then we could have paid for them all.

Christ didn’t go to the cross to save us from a lot of that condemnation. In Christ there is no condemnation. And no reason for us to go through purgatory.

But really lost rewards because we in this life may have frittered away our chances to obey the Holy Spirit when He prompts us or because we “worked” in our own strength aping the fruits of the Spirit and producing “works” of stubble, hay etc that will be lost ... that is more than enough dealing with worldliness from the redeemed.

Sopranos-Paulie On Purgatory

You add up all your mortal sins, multiply that number by 50, then you add up all your venial sins and multiply that by 25. You add 'em together, and that's your sentence.

Purgatory can best be described as the Bosom of Abraham. This was where Christ went to get those who died before his death who were justified by their faith, but lacked the sufficient work of a perfect sacrifice.

A major fault of Protestantism is that it thinks that the only damage caused by sin is juridical or legalistic. But sin damages the soul in addition to being an offense against God. Thus, even after sins are forgiven their wounds still exist. The cleansing of Purgatory addresses these wounds; its effects are medicinal, not merely juridical.

Not only that but it denies the sufficiency of God’s Word.

No one gets into Purgatory without the Blood of the Lamb, so your remark shows a major misunderstanding of Catholic teaching.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9. It is so sad that some think their salvation depends on something they must do. They can never be sure they have done enough. This is a GIFT to all who believe. There cannot be such a place as purgatory or one is denying that what Christ did was enough.

“Purgatory does not exist.”

Biblically, no. But I’m sure it exists in the imaginations of quite a few.
