DALLAS After church on a recent Sunday, Emily Mooney smiled as she told her girlfriends about her public act of rebellion. She had slapped a Beto for Senate sticker on her S.U.V. and driven it to her familys evangelical church.
But then, across the parking lot, deep in conservative, Bible-belt Texas, she spotted a sign of support: the same exact sticker endorsing Beto ORourke, the Democrat who is challenging Senator Ted Cruz.
I was like, who is it? she exclaimed. Who in this church is doing this?
Listening to Ms. Mooneys story, the four other evangelical moms standing around a kitchen island began to buzz with excitement. All of them go to similarly conservative churches in Dallas. All are longtime Republican voters, solely because they oppose abortion rights. Only one broke ranks to vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016. But this November, they have all decided to vote for Mr. ORourke, the Democratic upstart who is on the front line of trying to upend politics in deep-red Texas.
In the Senate race, one of the most unexpectedly tight in the nation, any small shift among evangelical voters long a stable base for Republicans could be a significant loss for Mr. Cruz, who, like President Trump, has made white evangelicals the bulwark of his support.

ANY CHRISTIAN WOMAN that would support this POS should be SHUNNED AT THEIR CHURCH!!
They hate whites and hired that nut, Sarah Jeong. Now they think they are stupid too?
Sinema dresses a lot cuter than McSally. Doesn’t mean I’ll vote for her. even though I love blondes and pink dresses.
Texas hasn’t voted Democrat for president since 1976. Using your logic, Tennessee sucks too because they voted for Clinton, and only recently became rock ribbed GOP.
beto is an attractive candidate, Cruz has a certain yuck factor... are evangelical women drawn to him? young ones, maybe. Being evangelical doesn’t make you a republican economically speaking, but I assume on most social issues it still does.
I don't think it's a major phenomenon.
Cruz has a certain yuck factor.
He's sort of the Ringo Starr or Jughead or Carrot Top or David Schwimmer of American politics.
But I think he'll win anyway.
Conservative Evangelical women ain’t dumb enough to vote for a soy boy like Beto.
NYTs = Fake News.
It’s not Beto being an attractive candidate. It’s the fact Cruz took such a battering in 2016 that he’s kinda withdrawn himself from being front and center and that’s allowed a social media activist to fill the void. Cruz will still win handily in Texas but his political esteem has declined considerably in a short space of time. I don’t expect him to seek another term after this.
Of course they may vote for a Democrat.
If Cruz would just swallow his pride and actively support our great conservative POTUS, he would be happier and his constituents would actively support him.
Policy-wise, Cruz and Trump agree on most things. If Cruz got on the Trump Train, POTUS would be magnanimous and welcome him to the fold.
White Evangelical women are all on board with Cruz.
Libs are desperate.
agreed, I think Cruz will still win.
I get that Cruz has been bruised, but I do believe Beto would be doing well against any generic GOP candidate. He’s very good on camera, even his views which seem anathema to a core conservative... are delivered in a very dare I say “human” way.
In the debates, Cruz should have kept referring to Beto by his real name of “Robert” or Mr. O’Rourke with occasional assides in Spanish to the Spanish audiences about the gringo trying to make himself into a fake Hispanic...
DeBlaso is his mother’s name. His father was a real alcoholic creep(which may have influence the son to go full lefttard). He adopted his mother’s last name after he graduated from college.
I don’t like De Blaso and his leftism but I can understand why he might have changed his name as his dad was a real a-hole!
Is there such a group titled “Partisan Media Shills Update”? If so, could you please add me? Thanks!
So if I don a blonde wig and wear a pink dress, you will love me? (I'm a 53 y/o middle-aged overweight Hispanic woman!) LOL! ;-) Good day!
Hey, look! We found 4 women at a liberal church in Dallas that SAY they might vote for Betttttto
Ted is unlikable.
Its too bad, I hope he wins, but his electoral appeal is limited.
