WASHINGTON, September 11, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) In a letter released today to priests of the Archdiocese of Washington, Cardinal Donald Wuerl has informed them that he intends, in the very near future, to go to Rome to meet with our Holy Father about the resignation I presented nearly three years ago, November 12, 2015.
"It was clear that some decision, sooner rather than later, on my part is an essential aspect of moving forward, the letter said.
The embattled Cardinal of Washington has been under the spotlight since the revelations of sexual abuse of his predecessor Cardinal Theodore McCarrick. Cardinal Wuerls denial of any knowledge of the allegations against McCarrick has been blasted even by other bishops as not credible. These criticisms were heightened last month when Wuerl featured prominently in the Pennsylvania grand jury report as playing a role in covering up for predator priests while serving as bishop of Pittsburgh.
There have been numerous calls for his resignation.
The explosive testimony of Archbishop Viganò, the former papal representative to the United States, called out Wuerl for lying about the McCarrick affair. Viganò claimed that Pope Francis covered up for McCarrick, giving him honors and responsibilities, despite having detailed knowledge of his abuse of seminarians and priests.
They submit their resignations at 75. The Pope can accept them resignation a year later, 5 years later -— or on the spot, as Francis does to the “good” bishops. If a bishop is a man of worth, Senor Bergoglio will can him automatically.
Wuerl has been screwing the laity all his life, and you want them to be screwed again?
And find me an abbot with the testicular fortitude to put a man between two stout guards and keep him on bread and water for 3 days, let alone a lifetime.
I’ll grant you that there is one that looks like a pay-off for SILENCE.
Prediction: he gets a cushy do nothing job in the Vatican that conveniently renders him immune from prosecution and extradition.
The cover-up continues.
The Catholic Church is complicit in the molesting young kids and then covering it up.
This has been going on for decades.
Who could still remain in this denomination considering that the hierarchy has allowed it for decades?
This is disgusting and sick.
I’ve seen it posted on FR here that a priest can abuse a young boy with horrible sex acts and then walk out to the congregation and give communion to them.
I wouldn’t take anything from the hands of such a pervert.
Ick
then again i think the pope has been covering things up for a long time
see post#47, use the property kinda like a property bond...
he comes back or else. no sanctuary in the Vatican
I’m sorry that this is happening in your Church, Mrs. Don-o.
There are always going to be problems with ‘man’, but there’s a higher Authority than mere man - or Bergoglio - in charge.
There will be rectification.
I am certain, relying on the promises of Christ, that there *will* be a correction. In His way and at the time of His choosing. Between now and then, though, there is going to be a lot of wrenching dislocation, confusion, moments of progress toward the good but then jolting reverses, I fear; and more scattering and wounding of the flock.
My own parish and even the Diocese of Knoxville are somewhat remote from this, but the Internet Age has dropped everything in our laps.
Nothing to do but try to live a good Catholic life and stay rooted at the foot of the Cross with the holy ones.
Pray for us because --- whether we know it or not --- we're all in this together.
I know that we’re all in it together.
God Bless.
Time for a Grand Jury to be convened. If the evidence warrants it arrest warrants should be issued. Extradition should be demanded up to and including the pope.
Drag them back to the US in chains if necessary.
