More Americans have left Catholicism behind than any other religion in the U.S., according to a new report. About 13 percent of American adults are former Catholics people who were raised in the faith but now say they have no religion, or converted to Protestantism or other beliefs, according to a survey by Pew Research Center. At the other end of the spectrum, 2 percent of U.S. adults report converting to Catholicism.

Wow! What could have caused this? Bueller? Bueller?
I’ll take Child Rape for 400 Alex.
Percentage-wise, Scientology has lost even more. They’re down to about 50,000 members, worldwide.
The Catholic Church has not lost the faithful,
Guess they were the unfaithful faithful.
Speaking only for myself, when nothing was a sin, and the church stopped saying that sanctity of life was most important, and that abortion was murder, the church started losing me, I mean really, at that point what separated Catholicism from being an Episcopalian...Really.
And then during the odunga years, when some of the priests took political positions and said that it was okay to support a candidate that was pro-choice if they supported social justice...Really, that was the last straw.
Is it over the last year, 5 years, 10 years, 20, 30, 50? It's pretty useless to quote how many have left (or the percentage of those who have left) without factoring in the time lapse.
Of course Catholicism was numerically the largest single denomination to begin with, so....
Maryology and Vatican II got me to leave.
All the pope has to do is bring back the military orders of the church and call on a crusade to wipe out Islam.
The catholic church will grow exponentially for generations.
Catholicism is also the largest denomination in the US... by far.
So, be cautious of writing too much into this, as Catholics outnumber every group in all categories.
In face the number of ex Catholics in the US was greater that most other denominations long before the sex abuse scandal broke.
Christianity went from being something very powerful in the western world, that people felt they had to conform to, even if they weren’t true believers, to being something less popular that people now freely choose for themselves while risking mockery from our modern secularized society.
At the exact same time that this transformation was taking place, the Jews went from being a powerless persecuted people, to reclaiming their Homeland and turning it into one of the the few righteous and brave Nations still left in the world today with a strong military
And at the same time, Christianity, at least the true Christianity of True Believers, went from being anti-semitic when it was powerful, to becoming pro-israel now that it has lost a lot of its power. And it seems like the non-denominational mega churches are drawing in a lot of the true believers who are disenchanted with the mainline denominations.
I can’t believe that this is all just a coincidence. Seems to me that it’s part of God’s plan for Jews and Christians to come together and face down the real evil..... Marxism, Islam, and secularist decadence. And if the mainline denominations have been infected by this virus, then maybe they have to die off too and be replaced by a form of Christianity that is in line with the beliefs of the Puritans, who also had a very high opinion of Jews and Judaism.
And as far as the non-religious Jews go, they’ve always been around and they always wound up assimilating. But there were always plenty of religious Jews who have lots of children to replace them. The same holds true today. For every jew like Gloria Steinem, who’s happy to pose with Linda Sarsour, there’s an Orthodox Jewish couple having lots of kids and teaching them to study the Torah. The fact that the Jews are not just a religion, but also an ethnic group, is the secret to their survival.
Christianity will also survive, once the non-believers and usurpers are purged, and only true Christians remain. The first step to achieving this is for true believing Christians to call out the charlatans in their midst. If you want to know where to find them, the best place to look is in the most prestigious and historical churches. Those are the churches that the leftists targeted.
Who wants to go to church and listen to the rantings of pedophiles and communists?
I’m out.
My wife is very faithful to the Church and our parish.
I am faithful within Catholicism although I don’t attend mass that much. We both enjoy a very spiritual marriage and don’t mind getting scoffed at when we say grace in public before dining.
I am an usher, and taking up a collection for these people makes me feel like an unindicted co-conspirator.
I am thinking of getting out. I am not hopeful for change as there is really no mechanism in our Church for lay people to force it. Fixing this would involve purging gay priests, and in this culture where saying “boo” about gays is deemed “hate speech” I just don’t see it happening.
The Roman Catholic Church has this, as the first Pope was Saint Peter. He died in Rome and that became the seat of the Roman Catholic Church. Also, Saint Paul criticized Saint Peter when he did not EAT WITH THE GENTILES... An important example of how the Apostles tried to correct the course of some of the Apostles, including Saint Peter.
Those who have been through times of trial (and those who have not been through times of trial should read: 1 Peter Chapter 1 Verses 6-9
In the time of Jesus, he lost many followers. From John chapter 6:
John 6:43-71 (NIV)
43 "Stop grumbling among yourselves," Jesus answered.
44 "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 It is written in the Prophets: 'They will all be taught by God.' Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me.[Jesus continues talking:]
46 No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father.
47 I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life.
48 I am the bread of life.
49 Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died.
50 But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die.
51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."
52 Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"
53 Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.
54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.
56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.
57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.
58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever."
59 He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.
60 On hearing it, many of his disciples said, "This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?"
61 Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, "Does this offend you?
62 What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before!
63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.
64 Yet there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him.
65 He went on to say, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him."
66 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
67 "You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve.
68 Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
69 We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."
70 Then Jesus replied, "Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!"
71 (He meant Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, who, though one of the Twelve, was later to betray him). (NIV)
Gee, I wonder why.........
