Italian Abbot: There Is a Crisis of Homosexuality in the Priesthood

ROME (ChurchMilitant.com) - An Italian abbot is confirming that homosexuality is a major crisis in the Catholic priesthood.

The Pope's alleged comment about gays being "born that way," and his recent affirmation that gay men should not enter the seminary, have created a puzzling situation for some. The Italian abbot, who goes by the name Abbot Faria, wrote to Vatican expert Marco Tossati and shared what was said by a young man with same-sex attraction who wanted to be admitted to Catholic priestly formation.

"Today a faithful layman who has homosexual tendencies asked me a question: 'The Pope said that God created me this way, so why, then, can I not enter the seminary and become a priest?" Faria wrote, quoting the layman. "If my orientation is according to God's will, then why could I not serve Him as a priest?'"

The man's question was sparked by Pope Francis' recent alleged remarks to a sex abuse victim saying that God made him gay.

Faria told the man that God does not actually make people gay: "I explained that the fact that God allows some things does not mean that he approves of them. Of course God loves everyone, but this does not mean that he approves of everything."

He also addressed the problem of homosexuals already in the priesthood, writing, "There is a huge problem in the Church, which is perhaps one of the key problems today: very strong homosexualization. Of course, not all homosexual priests are necessarily bad priests, but this condition makes the ministry very difficult."

Come on. All the catholic defenders here say it’s only one percent of priests. Right. And Iran is abiding by the terms of the Obama/Kerry nuclear treaty.

It’s more like 20% are not homosexual.

If you’re a “faithful man with homosexual tendencies” why would you enter a man only cloistered situation seriously

The real crisis is not obeying the ten commandments. So is the “priesthood” immune from that?

“An Italian abbot is confirming that homosexuality is a major crisis in the Catholic priesthood.”

And an approved activity in Vatican City, where drug-fueled, homosexual parties are reported in local newspapers.

Der! It has been going on for decades. I knew a seminary student in the 80’s. He said the homosexual culture was pervasive.

I bet the % of gay priests in the 50’s,60’s and 70’s was way higher than in the 80’s, 90’s, 00’s and ‘10’s. If you look at the John Jay report, the reported abuse rose abruptly in the early 50’s crested in the late 70’s and then fell just as abruptly to pre-1950’s levels. The majority of abuse was homosexual abuse, 80% if I recall.

I think that matches the rise of the sexual revolution into the broader culture’s acceptance of homosexuality. Once the broader culture accepted it the number of homosexuals who chose to hide in a celibate priesthood dwindles. By the late 70’s there were whole communities were tolerated in some places up to today where they can be actual leaders in other faiths openly, be married by the state, and be protected from ‘discrimination’ by the state. They have positions of power openly and are celebrated for their homosexuality in politics and the media.

My sincere apologies to my Catholic brethren but this pope may be the heretical pope spoken about in Revelations.

Maybe he’s not but he certainly laying the groundwork for the One prepared to come.

I pray for all Christian because the forces of evil will be coming for all true believers.

May God have mercy on all our souls!

I'd guess he considers it a target-rich environment.

I have known about this issue in the Catholic priesthood first hand for over 50 years since my teens playing basketball at the CYO. Priest who are still in the orders don't discuss this with outsiders but they discuss it amongst themselves.

I don't want to bash the Catholic Church but if moving Priests around from parish to parish for decades was their solution to the problem, it is not just < 1%.

The problem within the priesthood also goes deeper than homosexuality. There are also Sexual predators who go after teen age and younger girls as well but that is another topic for another time.

No one is “born that way.” That’s been scientifically proven with twin studies, and now the new human genome discoveries seem to point that direction too.

Given those facts you will never hear on CNN, many, many people are unsuitable for the priesthood. Women, for example. Even if she is physically and psychologically healthy, spiritually mature, humble, kind and obedient... qualities gays by definition lack... she does not have that vocation.

Homosexuals are never good priests. Look and you cannot deny it. YES, even if celibate. Don’t let them in and protect them and others from inevitable hurt.

I haven’t heard a Catholic defender say its 1%.
Any Catholic with experience knows its much higher.
And its probably been so for a millenium at least.
Maybe worse recently, but never unknown.
Maybe they were more disciplined in the past.

And misbehaving priests are and always have been common. Priests have had mistresses forever.

But as St. Augustine established concerning his refutation of the Donatist heresy, the rites and sacraments of the Church are not impunged by the sinful state of the clergy.

Such persons should be removed, but the Church will survive them.

The most conservative and holy Catholic women always seem to value the discipline of celibacy. The most liberal and wacky Catholic women invariably hate celibacy and want it ended. Try to find one liberal of any sex and faith that finds the Catholic discipline of celibacy valuable and wants it to continue.

Bob Dornan former congressman from Orange County CA. said the Catholic Church removed the prohibition against homosexuals in the priesthood back in the late 1950s.
