Will they be hounded out of their profession?
For years bioethicists of a utilitarian cast have argued that conscientious objection has no place in medicine. Now Canadian courts are beginning to put their stamp of approval on the extinction of doctors right to refuse to kill their patients.
The Superior Court of Justice Division Court of Ontario ruled this week that if doctors are unwilling to perform legal actions, they should find another job.
A group of five doctors and three professional organizations were contesting a policy issued by Ontarios medical regulator, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO), arguing it infringed their right to freedom of religion and conscience under Canadas Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
However, Justice Herman J. Wilton-Siegel wrote on behalf of a three-member panel:
the applicants do not have a common law right or a property right to practise medicine, much less a constitutionally protected right.
Those who enjoy the benefits of a licence to practise a regulated profession must expect to be subject to regulatory requirements that focus on the public interest, rather than the interests of the professionals themselves.
At issue is the policy of effective referral. A doctor who objects to participating in euthanasia cannot be forced to do it. But he is expected to pass the patient to another doctor who will. The CPSO argues that effective referral is necessary to protect the public, prevent harm to patients and facilitate access to care for patients in our multicultural, multifaith society, by guiding all physicians on how to uphold their professional and ethical obligations of non-abandonment and of patient-centred care within the context of Ontarios public health-care system.

These are the national health care death panels that Sarah Palin was warning us about, and was reviled by the Democrats for thinking such a thing would ever happen.
Do you hear any apologies?
Thats slavery
They should refer Justice Herman J. Wilton-Siegel .
Bye bye.
I didn’t realize they had legalized euthanasia in Canada. It is apparently fairly recent, which is why it is coming up now.
So they are saying Doctors MUST refer to euthanasia providers in the Canadian health care system if they wish to remain employed.
They apparently aren’t allowed to even say “I won’t do it. If you want to find another physician who WILL, then you have the right to do so...but I won’t do it.”
They can’t even say that.
the applicants do not have a common law right or a property right to practise medicine, much less a constitutionally protected right.
Hyphenated leftist person negating the right of a citizen to exercise his conscience in good faith. This person will burn.
Their crowning achievement ,if you can call it that, is when euthanasia makes the transition for voluntary to mandatory. Mark my words, it’s coming.
Healers should never be told to be killers.
Maybe doctors should giver euthenasia referrals for all of these pro-death politicians?
We have to kill them to make sure that they aren't harmed... ahem...
Death Panels — don’t have anything to do with them. Move out of Canada!
Telling someone to go somewhere else is slavery?
Forcing doctors to refer is slavery- yes.
What - the Canadian education is that poor that patients wont jnow they can go to another doctor? (And knowing their medical system they probably cant)
Person 1: Hey, I think I’ll go to Med School.
Person 2: What type of medicine do you want to study?
Person 1: Deathology. How to kill patients legally.
This is what public medicine descends to and many can’t wait to see it come here.
Death panels. Sarah was right again.
One scary country. A couple from Michigan got lost after a show in Detroit and ended up barely in Canada with a gun that he had a permit for...Canada took them to the cleaners, thousands of dollars and kept the gun. And their car initially as I recall. Do not go to Canada.
I weep for Canada and even more for babies ( born and unborn) and souls trapped there. Former Canadian resident, 76-79.
For what it’s worth, Trump did manage to kill off Obama’s Death Panels, at least according to one article that I read.
