Notre Dame Student Fears Losing Birth Control Coverage Under University Health Plan
CBS News ^ | 10/10/17

The Trump administration's plan to roll back mandatory insurance coverage for birth control faces a new federal court challenge. Washington state's attorney general sued Monday to stop the new rules from taking effect. California and Massachusetts have already filed similar complaints.

Last week, the administration said it's changing the Obamacare requirement that health plans cover contraception. It wants to exempt any non-government employer with a "religious or moral objection."

Because of the Catholic Church's strict stance against contraception, Notre Dame University has fought the birth control mandate for years, reports CBS News' Adriana Diaz.

Although the university hasn't yet decided to withdraw coverage completely, some women on this campus are worried they're about to lose an important part of their health care.

"I respect my university's adherence to Catholicism but I also think that no woman should have to choose between her serious medical needs and her university's religion," said Notre Dame law student Kate Rochat.

The university health plan Rochat signed up for just last year could be in for a drastic change. The school may drop birth control coverage following the Trump administration's announcement Friday

Oh, the horror! She might actually come out of her purse and pay for something herself. Besides, birth control is not even expensive. Stop whining.

I did a quick check and found tuition alone at Notre Dame exceeds $50,000 and the first site I checked offered birth control pills at just over $100 for 12 months. Three trips to Starbucks a week would cost here over $600. Anyone with her ability to perceive reality should never be admitted to college.

University of Notre Dame · Tuition
$51,505 USD (2017)

“Get a 12-month prescription for over 100 birth control pills after an online assessment. We send the prescription to your local pharmacy. Some pills cost as little as $9 per month without insurance at Walmart. Lemonaid is simple to use and saves you time.”

There is that...LOL If a person can afford to go to Notre Dame, they most certainly could afford any meds they required.

BC pills cost a bit less than a dollar a day.

Skip the vending machines, the beer, the latte, pack a lunch... if you drop the freshman 20 then the steroid might actually come in handy.

BTW long term use of steroids have validated side effects that are quite serious.

BC pills are like $17 retail. They are covered for non BC reasons. You are telling me this chick doesn’t have $17 a month?

The reasons are pretty easy to document. Both of my daughters had to do it.

Don’t they know how to recycle a condom? You just turn it inside out and shake the f*ck out of it!

Shouldn’t they pay for it themselves? Unless pregnancy is seen as a sickness by these morons. Lunatics.

It is not that expensive, go five days without a Starbucks and presto your pill is paid for.

“Washington state’s attorney general sued Monday...”

Ironic continuation of the attack on religious freedom, given the KKK’s presence in Washington State back in the day.

KKK at the State level, in a suit rather than a sheet.

The student needs to try the proven method.

Abstinence.

If you are borrowing 15K a year to attend a college, you can borrow $500 a year more to pay for birth control.

If we used our car insurance the way we use our health insurance, the insurance company would be paying for our gas.

She can afford Notre Dame but cannot afford either condoms, a diaphragm, or the pill?! Or, gasp! abstinence. Maybe she should attend an Indiana State campus. With the money saved she could surely afford birth control.

Kate, buy your own birth control! It isn’t expensive. Better yet, abstinence works great!

Well, college students can now exercise something called “abstinence” that protects from pregnancy and disease.
But, let’s face it, they’d rather “whore it up” by their own admission of being worried that they can’t get “birth control”.
