The brilliant German monk never intended to start his own Church
A few years ago, a Lutheran friend sent me a link to her favourite website: Lutheran Satire. The brainchild of a US Lutheran pastor, it focuses on Church humour from a Lutheran angle. The goal is catechesis through comedy, and no issue or religious leader is too sacred to poke. One of the sites most popular videos is a cartoon called The Reformation Piggybackers. The plot is simple: Luther nails his 95 Theses to the door of the Wittenberg church...

Thank God for using poor, flawed Saint Luther to restore the message of eternal life through the grace of God!
He still lives rent free in the heads of FRomans!

“The just shall live by faith.”
With all due respect to the Rev Charles J Chaput, I’d say he’d be better served in getting his own house in order.
How many of the FReepers commenting on this article have actually read the OP in its entirety? You might find it rather incisive, and also more than fair to Luther.
“The brilliant German monk never intended to start his own Church”
I was told many years ago that neither did Siddhartha Gautama.
Celebrating five centuries from one of the major events that led to the Reformation.
Even the Catholic Church has made some important changes as a result. They no longer burn heretics at the stake. (Neither do any Protestant denominations I am aware of.) They do not sell indulgences. And they cooperate with Protestants in many important civil matters like electing politicians who are pro-life, pro-liberty, pro-faith, and pro-family.

Salvation is through Him.
The one I’m proud of is Jean Calvin...

Religion.
“With all due respect to the Rev Charles J Chaput, Id say hed be better served in getting his own house in order.”
It is. He’s done a lot of work in Philadelphia. That’s his house.
“They no longer burn heretics at the stake.”
The Church never did. The state did.
“They do not sell indulgences.”
The Church never did. Some unscrupulous members of the Church violated canon law and did so.
“It is. Hes done a lot of work in Philadelphia. Thats his house.”

I had a bit bigger house in mind there. The current occupant is trashing it and he never even put down a damage deposit.
I was pleasantly surprised at how impartial and balanced it was.
He would probably be horrified by a Marxist Islamophile Pope.
Maybe so, maybe not, however, it was the Grace of God that led to the rise of Protestantism.
Yet the Jesuit, Bergoglio, is intent on starting his own "church":
We Catholics have some and not some, many who believe they possess the absolute truth and go ahead dirtying the other with calumny, with disinformation, and doing evil. They do evil. I say this because it is my Church.
Who was Tomas de Torqemada and what office did he hold granted by which Pope?
I might go down in history for having split the Catholic Church, Pope Francis.
Why would any Catholic pope brag about that?
