“Yes the Rules are in full play tonight.”

Yes, the Protestant Anti-Catholic rules where you say one thing is another when it isn’t.

Faith is not sola fide.

It is written is not sola scriptura.

John, chapter 21

Conclusion. 24It is this disciple who testifies to these things and has
written them,

http://usccb.org/bible/john/21#51021024-1

and we know that his testimony is true.

http://usccb.org/bible/john/21#51021024-n

25There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written.

Which proves NOTHING about sola scriptura. Sola scriptura does not mean “it is written”. What you’re doing here is simply not intellectually honest.

John had a couple of things to say about the written word and the truth found in it.

13These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. 1 John 5:13 NASB

30Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name. John 20:30-31 NASB

I guess you'd only be satisfied if the words "sola scriptura" were in the Bible somewhere.

As we both know they're not.

But if the canon we have is not the final authority of truth, as it is the only inspired set of texts we have....then what else is?

Roman Catholic "Sacred Tradition" based on the contradicting opinions of the ECFs??

Dogma that appear centuries later with no prior support?

If the Bible is not the ultimate source, and only source of truth for salvation, then you have to allow the Mormon their Doctrine and Covenants, The Pearl of Great Price, the Book of Mornon....you have to allow the Muslim the Koran all as being "just as good as" the Bible.

Why didn't Rome include these other writings that Roman Catholicism claims hold truth at Trent when they had the chance?

For that matter, why not convene a Council and do it right now. Have you ever wondered why they don't?

Of that there is no doubt.

But he explained in John 20:30-31 what we need and left us with what we have. What more is needed to bring someone into a sustaining relationship with Christ?

Faith is not sola fide.

Then what else, or who else, are you trusting in for your salvation?

Another saint? Mary?

What good work can you do that equals what Christ did on the Cross?

What good work can you do that seals you in Christ...other than believe in Him?

Further...what can you do to unseal something God has sealed?

13In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,

14who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.

Eph 1:13-14 NASB

You have a problem with the content, take it up with them.

My only problem is your quoting out of context.

I only posted the pertinent parts that showed Roman Catholicism's sources say they don't know what you claim they know.

No. You selectively parsed your source.

Note: By promulgating the Bull Munificentissimus Deus, 1 November, 1950, Pope Pius XII declared infallibly that the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was a dogma of the Catholic Faith. Likewise, the Second Vatican Council taught in the Dogmatic Constitution Lumen Gentium that "the Immaculate Virgin, preserved free from all stain of original sin, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, when her earthly life was over, and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things (n. 59)."

Again, not unlike you past attempts to attack the Blessed Mother and the Catholic faith.

You can deny what the information says but it doesn’t change it. You cannot with 100% certainty say it did happen or it didn’t happen. What you can say with 100% certainty is you don’t know if it happened.

You can’t pray to dead humans. That’s blasphemy.

Ok, where in that do you get, “Pray to a dead human who has no power, can’t hear you and never knew you?”

They lied.

They were lied to, and believed the lies, then repeat the lies they've been told.

When posting a quote in the Religion Forum, always give the source and make it easy to find.

You think because I don’t buy the nonbiblical assertion that mary was assumed bodily into heaven that my salvation is in danger? Why would anyones belief about mary have anything to do with their salvation? just proves the point that you catholics put mary in a place of deity.

While I appreciate your concern it is wasted. I will be in Heaven with my Lord, without any stops in an imaginary purgatory on the way. I trust Him and Him alone for my salvation. However, you might be careful. He is a jealous God and shares His glory with no one. He alone is to be worshipped and glorified.

Your answers sound almost evangelical.

>>“John had a couple of things to say about the written word and the truth found in it.”<<

You cite John 20. Note that John himself says, “but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ”? Yes, John wants us to believe, of course he does. But nowhere does John say he thinks we only need sola fide. And he clearly is saying sola scriptura is impossible.

He wrote those things so those reading the letter could believe. It's why we have the written word as the source of Truth. There is no other source that equals the Word.

Now, I posted this response (actually one much like it) last night and even though it didn’t violate the rules in any way it was deleted. And you talk about “Rules”?

I don't know why it would have been deleted. Sounds like the typical back and forth post we see on these threads.

But hey....I had several posts that provided a countering view regarding Fatima and they were removed I guess after someone cried to the RM.

“I’ve had many FReepers tell me quite recently that nobody would worship the Virgin Mother, much less supplicate her deific deliverance.”

No one “worships” the Blessed Mother. The Catholic bishops were not worshipping her. They were praying for Divine intercession.

“Amazing the Roman Catholic goes to Mary first....and not God the Father.
It shows a complete lack of faith in Christ on the part of the Roman Catholic.”

They pray to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. They did not go to Mary first.

But The Blessed Mother has inspired great miracles and listens to the prayers of the faithful.

Recognizing and praying to the Blessed Mother does not in any way diminish faith in Christ. In fact, it strengthens it because Mary was the Mother of Christ.
