And the Brown Scapular, as you seem to know, is not an indulgence but a sacramental.

The seven sacraments—Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Communion, Confession, Marriage, Holy Orders, and the Anointing of the Sick—are the life of the Catholic Church.
All of the sacraments were instituted by Christ Himself, and each is an outward sign of an inward grace.

Looks like we have another quite knowledgible Catholiuc on our hands.

You didn’t know that there is a difference between sacramentals and the seven sacraments?

Sacramentals are sacred signs that bear a certain resemblance to the sacraments. Sacramentals include such things as holy oils, bells, incense, candles, holy water, and medals and scapulars, including the brown scapular.

I used the word sacramental, not sacrament.

A sacrament is an outward sign instituted by Christ to **give** grace, not simply an outward sign of inward grace.

A sacramental, otoh, is “anything set apart or blessed by the Church to excite good thoughts and to increase devotion, and through these movements of the heart to remit venial sin.”

A sacramental is, therefore, very different from a sacrament.
