Woods describes Francis as a result of John Paul II who - as he puts it - appointed "absolutely terrible people" as bishops: "Catholics have suffered under Bergoglios for decades now”.
Neumayr agrees that a lot of the liberal bishops were appointed by John Paul II and Benedict XVI. He sees Francis as the “culmination of a century” of liberalism and modernism in the Church.
For him it is "highly unlikely" that Francis, who in his theology is “more a Protestant than a Catholic” will convert to Catholicism. Instead, the realistic scenario is that Francis will produce division and chaos, "Catholics will have to decide whether they guard the faith over papolatry.”
And: “The Cardinals have to declare that Francis is a bad pope who must be resisted.”
It’s a Gen Y/Z meme.
Basically, it means, “I know that I said something that’s gonna get someone mad, so I’m just going to flaunt it!”
Again, only your opinion. I will stick with the teachings of God’s church and the writings of the saints.

My study of the Word of God has lead me to appreciate the insights of saints and the truth of Catholic teaching. I would rather follow them than the false commentaries of the Protestants. As I have said many time, what is in dispute is not the authority of Scripture but its interpretation. And here, the Protestants have gotten it wrong. The truth, which Protestants do not want to admit, it that they are just as bound to their own traditions in the interpretation of Scripture as are the Catholics.
That is private confession, not confession itself. As the very quote you give states, in the early centuries it was done publicly and only for very grave sins. The sacrament existed all along, only how it was practiced changed. So what?

It appears the root of your problem is the assumption that all Scripture is about Christians. It is not.

A classic example of rationalization to deny the clear meaning of Scripture and force it to comply with a preconceived notion of "by faith alone." I will stay with the plain meaning of Scripture over Protestant denials.
