CNS News put pro-abortion House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on the spot this week, asking her if aborting an unborn baby with a beating heart dishonors God.
Pelosi, a Democrat who claims to be a practicing Catholic, strongly supports abortion. Going against her faith, Pelosi repeatedly has voted to support the abortion chain Planned Parenthood and oppose regulations and limits to abortion.
Interestingly, Pelosi often brings up her faith to explain her support for other issues, such as the environment and welfare. Last week, she mentioned honoring God when she opposed a decision by the U.S. to pull out of the Paris Accord on climate change.
On Thursday during Pelosi’s press briefing, the conservative news outlet decided to find out if she would respond similarly when confronted with the reality of abortion. Perhaps unsurprisingly, she dodged the question.
Here’s Pelosi’s response:
CNSNews.com: “Three weeks ago you said we need to be ‘responsible stewards’ of ‘God’s creation.'”
Pelosi: Yes.
CNSNews.com: “And that it dishonors God to pull out of the Paris Accord.”
Pelosi: “Yes.”
CNSnews.com: “The Heartbeat Protection Act would prohibit aborting a baby with a heartbeat. Does it dishonor God to abort a baby with a beating heart?”
Pelosi did not answer the question directly but said: “I don’t—obviously you want to get into that discussion. What I say is: I completely respect a woman’s right to choose. I am a mother of five children, nine grandchildren. …
Pelosi continued: “I come from a very strong Italian Catholic family and many of my friends and family members do not share my view. But it is my view that it is up to a woman to have her own right to choose the size and timing of her family. God gives us a free will and holds us responsible and accountable for our actions.”
For many religious Americans, including many Democrats, unborn babies are part of God’s creation and deserve protection – but not to Pelosi. In 2013, she put her foot in her mouth during a press conference, calling late-term abortions “sacred ground.”
In April, she used a quote from Jesus in the Bible to describe born children as “the least of my brethren” and to call for more government funding of programs to help them. However, Pelosi repeatedly has failed to extend the same protections to babies in the womb.
Pelosi’s position strays far from the Catholic Church, of which she claims to be a part. The church teaches that all human lives are valuable, from the moment of conception to natural death, and deserving of protection and support.
Several Catholic Church leaders have said Pelosi should not be allowed to receive communion because of her pro-abortion record.
Pelosi is a Democrat. That means, for her, every live birth is a cosmic failure.

The sole reason these rights were deemed unalienable is that both are derived from the Creator--not from the mother or father, and not from government or judicial decision. What is "granted" by human decision also can, by implication, be withheld.

That understanding underlies every other consideration embodied in our Declaration of Independence and every protection of our Constitution. It is the very basis of our rights to life and liberty, of laws to protect them, and it distinguishes ours from other forms of government.
When we fail to acknowledge that foundation of our liberty, then we risk liberty itself for future generations, for where does the right to choose who lives and who does not really end? Do we not already see an expansion on the idea as it might apply to the aged, or the infirm, or simply those believed by some bureaucrat(s) to be a threat to the elitist agenda.
That is why the question is of vital importance in each election. Already, we have deprived millions of their Creator-endowed rights to life and liberty, and our nation must be weaker for their loss. We need leaders who understand the implications and potential consequences of departing from our founding principles.
In recent decades, technological advances have enabled us to observe the characteristics and actions of God's tiniest creations in the womb. Unlike previous generations who could not see, we have no excuse for imagining that these are mere blobs of tissue labeled "fetuses." In their early weeks, we now can see that they are living babies who will continue on to possess life and liberty if we do not "destroy" both. Indeed, they are simply smaller versions of ourselves.
Questions on the economy, taxes, threats from terrorists, health care--all are considerations at this election time. One, however, may be basic to all others. Who will best protect the underlying premise of our Constitution--and the lives and liberties of millions yet unborn?
Promises are illusive and cheap. One fact is indisputable, however: Elizabeth Warren and her radicalized "progressive" regressives are committed to the Far Left's agenda on this matter, and that agenda is not compatible with our Constitution's premise.
Nasty Pelosi is just nasty.

When the bishops aren’t Catholic, how can they validly excommunicate others?
Which is worse the fact Princess Nancy can’t say it or the fact her Bishop can’t excommunicate her?
I think the Bishop failing to excommunicate is far worse. He is not only culpable for NP’s apostasy, but his decision to excommunicate would impact many souls by example.
I am NOT the Judge, but I suspect she is incapable of repenting at this point, so it is the duty of the Bishop to excommunicate!
I am more concerned about he priest and bishop and why they don’t withhold the sacrament and excommunicate her.
I assume that the Catholic Church can make her subject to church discipline? It’s time for their leadership to step up to the plate.

If Jesus had lived in todays world Pelosi would have been shouting to crucify him! She would not have recognized hi anymore than she has the people who have opposed her wicked ways.

The bishops themselves need to be excommunicated.
Without trying to start an argument (like yes, I have done in other threads), that’s one problem facing the RCC at the moment. When you assign to yourself the ultimate authority on Scripture, what happens when your hierarchy blatantly disregards the words of God himself?
Is there no check against heresy in the highest levels? Is this going to require a revolution or a schism?
All good questions. That is probably the crux of the Crisis these last 50+ years. I don’t know that I have good answers. All I know is that what the putative hierarchy professes and teaches as the Catholic Faith contradicts what was professed and taught prior to the 1960’s. I truly question whether any of them truly hold the Catholic Faith...even those who appear “traditional”.
