Theologian: Shared Communion With Protestants Would be Blasphemy and Sacrilege
National Catholic Register ^ | January 2, 2017 | Edward Pentin

...If the Church were to change its rules on shared Eucharistic Communion it would “go against Revelation and the Magisterium”, leading Christians to “commit blasphemy and sacrilege,” an Italian theologian has warned.

Drawing on the Church’s teaching based on Sacred Scripture and Tradition, Msgr. Nicola Bux, a former consulter to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, stressed that non-Catholic Christians must have undertaken baptism and confirmation in the Catholic Church, and repented of grave sin through sacramental confession, in order to be able to receive Jesus in the Eucharist.

Msgr. Bux was responding to the Register about concerns that elements of the current pontificate might be sympathetic of a form of “open Communion” proposed by the German Protestant theologian, Jürgen Moltmann.

The concerns have arisen primarily due to the Holy Father’s own comments on Holy Communion and Lutherans, his apparent support for some remarried divorcees to receive Holy Communion, and how others have used his frequently repeated maxim about the Eucharist: that it is “not a prize for the perfect, but a powerful medicine and nourishment for the weak.”

The debate specifically over intercommunion with Christian denominations follows recent remarks by Cardinal Walter Kasper who, in a Dec. 10 interview with Avvenire, said he hopes Pope Francis’ next declaration will open the way for intercommunion with other denominations “in special cases.”

The German theologian said shared Eucharistic communion is just a matter of time, and that the Pope’s recent participation in the Reformation commemoration in Lund has given “a new thrust” to the “ecumenical process.”

Pope Francis has often expressed his admiration for Cardinal Kasper’s theology whose thinking has significantly influenced…the priorities of this pontificate, particularly on the Eucharist.

For Moltmann, Holy Communion is “the Lord's supper, not something organized by a church or a denomination”...

“Call no man father”

According to HAYDOCK:

ST. MATTHEW - Chapter 23 Ver. 9-10. Call none your father ... Neither be ye called masters, &c. The meaning is, that our Father in heaven is incomparably more to be regarded, than any father upon earth: and no master is to be followed, who would lead us away from Christ. But this does not hinder but that we are by the law of God to have a due respect both for our parents and spiritual fathers, (1 Corinthians iv. 15,) and for our masters and teachers. (Challoner) -— This name was a title of dignity: the presidents of the assembly of twenty-three judges where so called; the second judge of the sanhedrim, &c. (Bible de Vence) -— Nothing is here forbidden but the contentious divisions, and self-assumed authority, of such as make themselves leaders and favourers of schisms and sects; as Donatus, Arius, Luther, Calvin, and innumerable others of very modern date. But by no means the title of father, attributed by the faith, piety, and confidence of good people, to their directors; for, St. Paul tells the Corinthians, that he is their only spiritual Father: If you have 10,000 instructors in Christ, yet not many Fathers. (1 Corinthians iv. 15.)

Your logic in asserting that the written word is far more important than tradition doesn’t hold water, and your methodology of proof is by nature of the question biased toward the written word.

Perhaps it is because the men who composed the books of the Bible were biased toward the written word.

That would probably be in the alleged Hebrew texts which no one has been able to produce so far.

You’ll just have to take his word for it, like we’re supposed to with everything else he tells us that he never backs up.

Well, pv should have qualified, and I am sure he will agree, that the 1983 Code of Canon Law is not a Catholic document. That is because it was authored by heretics and apostates, not the true Catholic Church (see post 19).

You got proof of that or is that just your opinion?

So you are united to protesters? But the very term, “Protestant” necessarily means protester.

Do you not object to immorality and corruption and the abuses of indulgences by the popes of the day that incited the protests?

Would you NOT have protested that within the church? Does that mean it's OK with you?

Protestants, on the other hand, do not heareth Jesus’ word when He says certain things that don’t agree with them, such as when He spoke of the need to eat His flesh and drink His blood to have everlasting life.

Then why do Catholics call their priests *Father* in direct disobedience to Jesus' very specific command to not use that as a title for religious leaders?

Where on earth do Catholics get those sappy fables they like to inflict on people as if that proves a point or something?

NOBODY is worthy to receive anything from God.

The root of thinking that you are worthy is pride and as long as you think you can be worthy, you will never humble yourself enough to receive the gift of salvation because only those who realize their unworthiness will ever ask for it.

Everyone else will just keep trying and trusting in their own merits, which will get no one anywhere.

The Church teaches that to become perfectly a disciple of Jesus, to accomplish most easily the commands of Jesus Christ we must be like Mary.

And SCRIPTURE doesn't.

The *Church* is wrong.

Prove it.

Show us Scripture that tells us that we have to be like Mary to most easily follow the commands of Jesus.

The Protestants have built their house on sand when they exclude the authority of the church instead of including it along with that of holy scripture.

Show me in scripture where the faithful must constantly argue with Peter and the church’s authority. Paul teaches that rather, if the sinner will not listen to the church than they are to be regarded as the heathen and the publican.

ST. MATTHEW - Chapter 18:17

*And if he will not hear them: tell the church. And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and the publican.

Jesus:

Matthew 23: 8-10 But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ.

Post 201 is nothing more than excuses for disobeying and justifying disobeying Jesus.

Jesus is the ROCK. Anyone who trust in HIM has built their house on the rock, and not the sinking and shifting sands of man-made doctrine the Catholic church passes off as if from God Himself.

Jesus told us that God's WORD is truth. He NEVER said the Catholic church was a source of truth.

If the Catholic church is, then you have to obey your pope, whoever he is.

Show me in scripture where the faithful must constantly argue with Peter and the church’s authority.

You must show that Peter was in authority over every other believer.

And that can't be done because he wasn't.

Paul teaches that rather, if the sinner will not listen to the church than they are to be regarded as the heathen and the publican.

Prove that he meant the CATHOLIC church. Show me where it says that one must be in subjection to CATHOLICISM, by name.

Also, that verse you took is out of context. It is not a blanket statement to all believers to be in subjection to one governing body calling itself the church.

All the context there is doing is addressing disagreements or conflict between individual believers. It is NOT establishing the ultimate authority of one church over everyone.

Scripture is authoritative, not Catholicism, as SCRIPTURE is the very God breathed, Holy Spirit inspired word of God.

Catholicism can't even agree within itself, and certainly not throughout its history based on the writings of the early church fathers, which don't even agree with each other.

If you exclude the ones that are known forgeries, too.

“...Prove that he meant the CATHOLIC church. Show me where it says that one must be in subjection to CATHOLICISM, by name.”

No need. The fruits and doctrines of Catholicism are that of Jesus Christ. The church does not, nor does salvation, depend upon Protestant rules and limitations to prove truth.

“Catholicism can’t even agree within itself...”

That’s like the pot calling the kettle black! (Except in this case the kettle is pure gold.) How many sects of Protestantism are there and counting?

“Catholic” means universal, as in that the entire faith is contained in it and applies to all souls and encompasses all legitimate societies of the faithful. There is no division in the Catholic faith, as Jesus prayed:

ST. JOHN - Chapter 17:22
And the glory which thou hast given me, I have given to them: that they may be one, as we also are one.

“...Post 201 is nothing more than excuses for disobeying and justifying disobeying Jesus.”

Then you are calling Saint Paul disobedient.

St. Paul tells the Corinthians, that he is their only spiritual Father: If you have 10,000 instructors in Christ, yet not many Fathers. (1 Corinthians iv. 15.)

He also speaks of teaching and leading as gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Perhaps Saint Paul had a better idea of what Jesus was conveying in the Matthew 23 discourse than the Protestants.

...in Protestant heresy.

What heresy is that?

Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

John 6:28-29
Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?
Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

1 John 3:21-23
Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.
And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.

James 1:27
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
